Average years riding 1-3. Scary makes my nearly 44 years look pre historic.

In their database.
Remember they are one of the UK's largest motorcycle insurers accounting for a significant proportion of the biking population.
I'm in no doubt that if the other big insurers conducted a similar survey the results would be much the same.
I don't fall into the category either.
I'm late middle aged, impoverished, in a low paid job and have been riding constantly for 35 years.
It would be wrong of me to bring into question the results, just because I don't fit the profile.
There is after all a much bigger picture.

I am surprisingly average! Though I have been riding for considerably longer at 28 years.
45 years old, 6ft, blah blah. Makes it sound like match.com

I daresay if the survey was confined to BMW owners, you would fit the profile perfectly.

Looking again at the figures, this looks to be a 'modal' average, rather than the 'mean' average that would make more sense to most people.
Hence you end up with a situation where they state average riding experience is 1-3 years (23%) meaning the vast majority fall outside of this band.

I'd agree with you - most of the BMW owners that I know are in their 50's coming up for 60.

Definitely not me. I cycle more than ride the bike. Mind you, we have done more miles in Europe than UK this year.

At the end of the day, who gives a $hit - ride and enjoy. Can you tell I don't like surveys (or statistics)?
