Hi, I have a 1100s with low bars fitted. I quite fancy fitting super bike bars but has anyone already done this? If yes, I would really value your feedback. Also I like the Bar Backs from Rapid Dog thinking this will keep the look of the bike. Not sure what way to go so any help or advice will be very much appreciated.

Due to old age and decreptitude I also have been looking at this for my 11S

I thought that there might be a quick and cheap option of finding a used top yoke from a late 1990's or early 2000's bike like the Rockster or RT or RS which would fit the 11S forks and have the handlebar clamps cast in.

Sadly after much research no other contempory BMW has the same top yoke but with the clamps.

That leaves swan-neck clip-ons from various sources, or the ABT top yoke conversion and prices starting at £250 or the bar backs.

Just decided to buy another bike though, to save all the hassle.

Just move the clip ons above the top yoke. Simple and effective. You might need longer brake line and if so a great time to fit braided hoses. Throttle clutch and choke cables will be ok.

Yes looked in to just putting them on the top yoke but at my age I feel I need a bit more.

Yep already moved the bars up to the top of the yoke 2 years ago - need a lot more up and back still.

Over the years I've tried everything except superbike type bars . That'll be std, above the top yoke and Bar backs.
Currently after a number of years with Bar backs I'm back to standard below the top yoke with lowered pegs. I think neck problems were the original problem I had but this doesn't seem to be a problem at the moment.
I feel the seat and pegs need serious modification if the bars are raised .

Well thats also what I have been thinking because if I put my arms in the position that raised bars will put me, I feel as though I am being tipped forward by the pegs and seat?

Often wondering if these kind of operations don't defeat the purpose?

All over the American forums the most common discussions are bar backs, lowered foot pegs and comfy seats.

The R11S/R12S are sports bikes and hence the seating position.

Changing that to something along the lines of a GS or a Harley completely ruins the looks of the bike and I doubt it has any positive effect on its handling, like fitting risers and lowered pegs to an S1RR, a GSXR or R1...

Wouldn't it be easier to just get a GS or Harley/cruiser instead? It would surely look better rather than riding a sports bike like this:

That bloke on the yellow R11 would be in that position if the bars were attached to the front axle! He must be 6'10 at least.

Now, of course, no one ever needs to change the seat position in their car, can't understand why the manufactures bother

Plus, I don't think the looks have been ruined?







What it does do, is turn a track bike into a road bike.
