Heat Shrink tuber or something to re-cover wiring
Can anyone recommend any way to replace / clean-up the original rubber wire covering. Was thinking of heat shrink or something similar.. Could be more trouble than its worth.
Has anyone ever had their R1100S re-wired?

I believe John (SP250) had his 11S rewired after a battery burst and the acid ate the wiringbfisher wrote:Can anyone recommend any way to replace / clean-up the original rubber wire covering. Was thinking of heat shrink or something similar.. Could be more trouble than its worth.

If you want to use heat shrink you will probably have to remove the loom to do it properly, as the size of the heat shrink needed to go over the end connectors probably won`t shrink enough to go tight on the wiring. I have the same problem with mine and I am gradually recovering it with black electrical tape as neatly as I can.

Steve is correct in that the whole wiring loom was replaced under warranty on my 11S when acid ate it from a split battery.
Heat shrink will not be quite so sucessful for the reasons stated above.
You need proper kind of tape which amalgamates to itself to re-cover the different sizes of wire bundles. Try here;

I have used Heat Shrink by slitting it and then super gluing it together again before heating it to shrink it. I works on small section quite well.
There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity

That's what I used on my GS, the only issue I've found is that it can dry out and become brittle very quickly, especially where there is movement like around the headstock. I now use a combination of that and electrical tape.SP250 wrote:You need proper kind of tape which amalgamates to itself to re-cover the different sizes of wire bundles. Try here;

You can get Tesa cloth wiring loom tape from Ebay. I paid a couple of quid for about 25 mtrs of 15mm. I used some self amalgamating tape to go over it where I felt it needed it - the stuff I got was seriously stretchy and covered a treat and looks very professional

theres a new version of the cloth tape , just called loom tape , it has the same texture look but way nicer to use and great looking , its what i used to do a loom on an 1150r , the other tip , if your doing a start , at say a plug connector , use loom tape , but put one turn of self amalgamating tape at the end, like a rubber ferrule , it helps stop anything getting in at the end and also stops loom tape from coming loose , but can still be cut off if needed .
self amalgamating tape is fantastic stuff , take a few goes to practice first time you use it ,, try a turn or two on a pencil and see.
