It's that time again.... :rolleyes:

I HAVE done a search, and there's shitloads of threads - if anything it's information overload ....

So - What are people's views on THESE TWO TYRES ALONE :

Michelin Pilot Roads vs Avon Azaro ST 45/46s

(I have used 010's, 020's, Pilot Sports, Z6's, M1/Z6 mix, Z6/020 mix, ContiRoadAttacks, so know what they're all like, thanks )

I've not used either of these yet on the Rockster and would like to hear people's thoughts. My riding is mostly commuting (525 miles a week) and some hooning/touring (over 100 miles most weekends or more).

Commuting is on fast A-roads (a29/A24), then town work so a fair bit of mostly upright riding.

Hooning tends to be smaller B-roads wherever possible so as much grip as possible is nice

Touring could be anything - but longevity is valued.

I ride in ALL weathers (even snow if I get caught in it) and especially value wet-weather performance along with good feedback from the tyres.

My current favourites are Metz's Z6 - but am always open to trying new tyres - hence why I want to try either of the two aforementioned types while the decent weather is (mostly) here.


Please help me decide from these two brands - I'm getting the new tyres this weekend (my current Z6 front is nearly triangular, and the 020 rear is worn and has a nail in it - it only lasted 4K miles!! ) - but will be ordering them today (from RideInBikeTyres in Reading - highly recommended ).

Having been an azarro buyer for years and the last set of tyres for my sport were z6's i cant see you being impressed with the wet weather performance of the the azarros

Interesting - which Azaro's?? the 39/40's or 45/46's???

I know the Azaro 2 was allegedly utter crap in the wet from friends.

You'd be hard pushed to beat the all round abilities of the Pilot Roads.
They do it all with ease,I was surprised how hooligan you could be with them on the S!Much prefered them to the Z6.

39/40s usually but I had a major front wheel slide in the wet on my M2 with the sporty ones they were probably all azarro 2'smaybe the new ones are better, but I loikes Z6's now mmmMMmmm

Last Pilot Road rear I had lasted 6.5K, doing pretty much the same kind of riding you do. Was well impressed, as the original Hi-Sports it had on lasted about 4K - and the ContiForce I have on now look like they'll be shot in the same.

Grip and stability of the Roads is fantastic, too. Only slight issue for me is the price of the things; I could do with somewhere selling them cheap.

Just out of curiousity, what were the Conti Road Attacks like for grip and mileage?

My Pilot Roads were well on the way for 6k (or more) on the rear before I double punctured them at 4k. Wet grip was fine, but then I'm a complete pussy in the wet. Dry grip was good too, and I will be getting another set.

The Z6 price seems a bit steep. If they were that price where I get mine I'd have gone for the Pilot Roads. Don't forget you get a free pair of waterproof gloves with the Michelins

I always go to FWR, they should be in your range. They're by the Oval.

FWR are cheapest I can find in London - but ring em first, went there once with R6 on a trailer (had no front paddock stand at the time) to find my pre ordered Supercorsas had been put on a blokes Mille R 15 mins earlier (so they said) they sorted out a set of Rennsports after a bit of a faff).

Have Pilot Roads on the SS and can't fault them..

Z6 £205!!!! Feck me. I had a pair fitted this week for £145

Incidentally - I agree with the Z6/Azaro thing. I used the ST45/46 on the round the world trip and they were fantastic in the dry. I was happy with them in the wet but they were a bit 'loose' compared to the Z6 which is defo better in the wet, but not so good in the dry. The 45/46 gave me higher mileage though, maybe 8k out the back but that was constant long miles at high speed without too much accelleration/decelleration

Not tried the Pilots cos they were going to be an extra £40 or summit
