Hello, I'm looking for an aftermarket exhaust for my HP2 Sport, Akrapovic or similar perhaps. Is anyone out there selling one?

Rare as hens teeth to be honest. Try Nigel at Sandbar Components he may be able to help and also does his own exhaust which is good.

Thanks for the response. I know Sandbars exhaust and have considered it, just not sure about the end cans..and price for complete system!

Have Seen a S/H Akrapovic for sale and offered the asking price, but the guy is pretty inflexible on payment method and uncommunicative. I'm not comfortable transferring the money and waiting for the post man when I don't have any real contact details for him...Shame.

Have also located an Italian mob offering Carbon end cans at a very reasonable price. Short of that I'm considering have the existing exhaust modified. It ooks good just sounds like a wet fart. Plus I think it's choking the bike.

Oh well, no immediate hurry, will keep looking and weigh up the options.

Keep the end can, replace just the headers maybe.

I'm considering doing that next year (+PC3) but I need to be 100% sure of how much noise it will generate after that... it has to be below 101/2db.

On my bike have kept the silencer part and replaced the headers with a Sandbar system. It seems to work well and the Sandar headers look far better than the originals.

In an ideal world I would also like the standard silencer shape but set up as a race pipe configuration.

The Sandbar-supplied headers look fantastically-made and are aesthetically-pleasing.

I'm not so sure about the aesthetics of either of the end cans though.

New - the Akra is about £3,000 - and I guess you occasionally see a S/H system come on the market. Not often though.

I think the original end can is the nicest looking of them all.

Just a question, since you have the headers and original can...
Have you ever had your bike noise tested by any chance?

Wotmewoory, you replaced the Headers only, what was the effect on noise and performance?

I really want a better sound (and smother running), I just don't imagine that you'll get a deeper and throatier tone from Header replacement only?

I used to have a Buell XB12 with aftermarket underslung exhaust from America, it would set car alarms off at ten paces. OK, not exactly neighbour friendly, but what a joy to listen to! Shame I didn't like the way the bike rode as it looked and sounded a treat.

Not exactly premium and a slightly oversized perhaps!

Andrew - It sounds like you need your bike remapped/PowerCommandered/Rexered/FRK'd to sort out the fuelling/air?

I quite like that Fresco one (aesthetically), to be honest.

Already have Powercommander and K&N, I would say the PC provided a considerable improvement in smoothness, particularly at the low end where I think the HP2 stutters. I just think the OEM exhaust is so muted it must be artificially constraining the bike. Assume that's why theres is a different map for the power commander for non-stock exhausts.

It's more about the whole set up and how it makes you feel when you ride it (Rider Satisfaction). My old 1100S,

, had Laser Exhaust system, I'd like my HP2 to sound a little more like that! If I could get my hands on the Akrapovic system that's what I'd probably go with. Sandbars Header pipes look great, but they are pricey and +VAT, I'm just not sure what gain you get from changing headers alone or just the end cans?

BM mechanic I used for my 1200S swore that the best performance gain on that bike was to be had from changing ONLY the headers, saying that's where all the constriction came from.

Personally, I was happy with the performance and very happy with the noise from the Akrapovic end cans - right combination of volume and tone.

The Sandbar headers also remove the catalytic crap so reduce weight, remove a bit of heat and makes the exhaust piping under the bike look much neater.

Running an easy bike rapid module in conjunction with the headers does seem to improve low down throttle response. There is a very slight increase in noise with the headers/standard silencer combo but nothing major. I changed the standard headers to improve the looks mainly. The standard silencer looks are better than every aftermarket can I've seen so I'm in no hurry to change it at the moment.

Need to do more miles to really see if there is any real significant gain in power/throttle response with the current set up. Unfortunately only completed 150 miles so far (see below for reason why!).

The clutch has gone on the bike again (think this is the third clutch to go in 12,000 miles) so off road for a while at the moment. At £800+ to change the clutch it's getting a bit boring tbh.

I found a used Akro for mine......and at one time I saw Revzilla had a blow out on the Akro systems.......so you might just check there.

If I did not have a system, I would just order the one from Sandbar. I think it is one of the best looking exhausts available for the HP2.

Another little tidbit of useless info is;

The stock system weighs 20lbs.....the full ti Akro weighs 7lbs. I weighed both exhausts with my fancy bicycle weigh scale.

The sound is incredible!

The headers are where you get the real benefits. A complete system is the way to go though. You will need to remap or fit a piggy back fueling device.
Nigels(sandbar) system is bloody lovely and I think reasonably priced. Personally I,m not a fan of the HP2s stock rear cans. I think you can attach other rear cans to the sandbar headers( ie akrapovic). Call him and find out.
Second hand ones are very rare and still quite costly if you can find one.

Out of interest Andrew ( and pardon my Yorkshireness) what is that wrong with the one you have got?

You could consider Leaving well alone if aint broke, scarce bike = collectable, after market mods = negotiating point to have the price reduced! collectors of scarce bikes like their bread wi nowt tekken out

Unless of course you are loaded and it is your prerogative to tinker then crack on matey and good luck.

IMHO most after market mods are not always positive . Enjoy the bike for what it is and not the lighter, faster sexier one (or two) you possibly could have bought
