Hi, just wondered what tyres everyone was using...

What are you using them for?
Commuting, hooning, track days ?

I use Dunlop Roadsmarts which were a revelation after the original Metzeler M1 and the M3 I replaced the originals with.

I really lost confidence on the Metzelers, to the point where I thought there was either something wrong with me, or the bike.Tthey were terrifying in the wet.

Others will have different ideas, I hear good things about Michelin PR3 especially, but I will stick with the Dunlops for the immediate future.

By the way, I got an email from M&P this morning to say they're doing Dunlop Qualifier pairs in 120 Fr and 160/180/190 rears for a mere £99 !!

I'll be mainly commuting in all weathers, 150 miles a day...

The bike I'm (hopefully ) lining up has Michelin Pilot Road 3s fitted. Does anyone else use those?

Pilot Road 3's or 4's best tyres available for everyday road riding.

I love my pilot road 3's. They offer great grip instantly, communicate what they are doing, and are brilliant in the wet.

Just put a set of PR3's on for the Trixster's Flash tour down to Melle.

Done just 2000 miles now and the rear is just starting to be less profiled (ie not flatted off yet) in the centre. Front doesn't seem to show any wear at all yet.

Now previously with the Bridgestone BT 023's at 2000miles I would be looking for new tyres next week.

Ask any of the Boxertrix lads who went how hard I was pushing the old R1100S to stay with Tony - hard.
Dry grip is very good, if a little more unstable than the BT 023 under very heavy braking (I guess from the greater number of sipes so the rubber was moving around more).
By all accounts the wet grip is outstanding (can't verify that yet) and they look to have at least another 3000 miles in them so way better life than the Bridgestones for the same money.
And £35 off in the current promo till end of July.

I've had two £35 fuel cards for the two pairs I put on my K and my BCR John, so that's a chunk of the petrol for the Scotland trip sorted

PR2s are getting a bit old now (meaning - if you do find any.... they will be rather old stock)

PR3s - got them on a BCR, and can't find much to fault with them.

But - I still rate the Dunlop Roadsmarts, and for more sporting rubber - the Sportsmarts.

I think Michelin have the Long-lasting, high grip, Sports-touring tyre market pretty-much sown up............ for good reason.

I fitted a PR4 on the back of mine before my recent France/Spain trip. We did about 1500 miles in a week, fully loaded up with panniers and top box. Probably close to 1000 miles of motorway. I've done maybe 3000 miles on it and it's only just started to square off.

Great tyre, very happy with it. Oh and it looks cool!

I take Al's point about PR2s being a bit long in the tooth but I've been mightily impressed. I got almost exactly 6000 miles out of the last pair on my 11. The last 3000 miles of that was around France and Spain. Front and rear wore out together...and both went on the shoulders first (yep, we had fun on tour) but managed to retain a pretty round profile. Always felt good to me, wet or dry.

It's not much of a living! I am going to try Avon next, the commissions better. Ding dong......
