Speed Bleeder for clutch

Post by Motocod »

Hi Folks,

Can anyone confirm the clutch bleed nipple thread pitch, please? I'm going to replace the end of my bleed adapter with a speed bleeder, and want to make sure I buy the right size.

Also, does anyone know if motorworks or James Sherlock stock them? I can't find them on their sites.

Thanks!

Ok, change of tack - wondering if I could try plumbers tape on the threads of the bleed nipple, to prevent fluid seepage past the threads. Anyone ever tried this?

I found previously that if I don't open the bleed nipple enough it's hard to get enough flow to displace air/fluid. Too much and it ends up running out through the threads and goes everywhere!! So if I could seal the threads it should, in theory, prove to be more effective.

Go on ebay. I bought a speed bleeder for my clutch line about £9.00. !0mm thread dunno what pitch it was but it fitted after I removed the bmw fill valve. I ground down the conical tip of the speed bleeder with a whizzer
by about 1.5mm. Take care removing the bmw fill valve, or you will mince your vent line. They use a threadlock sealent on it. Bit of heat needed They ain`t cheap..... don`t ask me how I know.

It`s obvious but crack the banjo union on the main reservoir/ cylinder as air gets trapped here as it is the uppermost point and no amount of flushing will purge it.

and... yes you can use ptfe tape, but the speedbleeder has already thread seal applied to it, a bit of ptfe will not harm and gives you piece of mind of no leakage or air ingress at the flushing stage.

Good luck. An essential piece of maintenance.

Thanks for the reply. I've already fitted a stainless bleed nipple, but the issue I had was fluid leakage up the threads when trying to bleed the system. Undo it too little and not enough fluid gets through, undo it a fraction too much and there's fluid everywhere!!

I may just try unscrewing mine and putting a little PTFE tape on the threads and trying again.
