So it started out as a simple job to remove the rear wheel and clean it properly, but then it ended up as .............

Image

Yes I know that the garage floor needs painting. One job at a time please.

So then I looked closely at the rear sub frame ....

So £60 later from a local paint blaster (a vintage bike enthusiast) ...

Spent today starting the rebuild.

Good luck with it - although a shame to spend the good weather rebuilding it, it's a kind-of winter job?

Al,

You are exactly right, and that it how it was planned, however other issues got in the way, so time has only become available now. Hopefully it will be finished soon so that I can enjoy some 'summer miles'.

But, having started at the back end I feel that I will have to go to the front and strip the forks to repaint the bottom yoke which is not in good condition.

The belly pan was badly scratched underneath so that is away at the painters as well.

Anyway, it's spurred me on to paint the garage floor !!!!

The bike is 11 years old but has a genuine 5,400 miles on it (I have the original bill of sale and every MOT).

The problem was that the previous owner (the second) stored the bike in a metal shed without heating so the bike was susceptible to the varying temperatures and humidity which did not help the paintwork.
