Well, just ordered the sat nav (Garmin Zumo 660lm) anyone else using one of these on a 1200s? If so, how are you hard wiring it and how do you hold the unit? Pics very welcome!!

Dave, without looking at the set up on the 12s - you may find that the clamp that comes with the unit - will fit behind your clutch lever "back clamp"

This presents the ramball just above and behind the switch binacle on the left hand bar.

I got a ball-kit with a selection of bolts - which replaces one of the bolts of the "back clamp" and is slightly neater (on the HP2)

Hi Dave, I don't use sat nav but Im sure there's a connector inside the fairing on the 12s, which switches on/off via the ignition.

The replacement bar mount sounds interesting and neat Al, should like to see some piccies.

I use the 550 and ran the supplied fused cable directly back to the battery

Hi Mitch, no is the easy answer, but I'm sure that Stoney who used to frequent these parts mentioned it on a previous sat nav discussion.

Try a search. with Stoney satnav in boxertech

That connector was tucked in under the instrument cluster area on the GS, so I'd assume in much the same area on the S?

It is a white connector, but will have a black blanking cap fitted to it.

I'd imagine it would be closely-tied to the loom, i.e not hanging free - tied back.

I use a Telfizer (sp?) with a bmw lead.
It does vibrate a bit, but i have an older heavier sat nav which may be the reason. The 400? Bit like a house brick!

Hi Dave, I have the 550 fitted to my 12S, you will need to buy a canbus connector lead from nippys and splice into the garmin lead that came with your sat nav, the OE connector is tucked away under the LHS fairing panel, you will need to fish it out as it is well tucked away and has a black cover cap on it.

Get the cheaper lead from nippy normans rather than the dedicated one

This comes with 3 wires but you only need 2 of them.

As for holding the unit, I use a ram ball that fits inside the LHS handle bar end at the yolk end. this one is similar but looks better than mine

Cheers Steve, I have Hellibars fitted so not sure if they have the hollow tube (just finished nights so will be in the man shed tomorrow). I like that idea and may well revert to original bars. Need to spend a bit of time and sort out position. Steve, on a different topic, did your Ilmburger hugger come with bolts? I got one off Ebay and it didn't come with bolts so I'm wondering if I need to buy new bolts or if I can use the BM bolts

Not sure regarding the bolts for the hugger, mine was fitted by Nigel (Sandbar) at one of the Burton trixter meetups, but I would imagine that you would require slightly longer bolts.
I would PM Nigel and if required I am sure he could supply you with the necessary bits n bobs

As for the Helibars, Yes they are solid and not a hollow tube but I think Droptarotter drilled and tapped his in order to fit a Ram ball to the same effect.
