Brake Pads Sensitivity

Post by JamesL »

Thought I'd share this - the 1150GS seems sensitive to front brake pads. I changed a worn set for Ferodo Platinums earlier this year, and almost immediately found the front brakes were really pulsing away. Thinking it was the bobbins (and having checked that the discs were pretty loose), I changed bobbins, bolts and wave washers (no thin inside washers fitted, and apparently none needed); and at the same time checked that the discs were still flat.

That cured the major pulsing, but I still had a higher frequency juddering and on inspection the Platinums weren't evenly gripping the discs.

So I've lashed out on a set of EBC HHs and that seems to have cured it - braking now smooth again and early indications are that the discs are being gripped evenly.

I have no idea why this should be so - surely a brake pad is a brake pad? But the bike definitely seems to prefer the EBC HHs.

One should always use EBC HH on every bike. They just work. Or at least they have on everything I've ever owned.
