Noticed today that the two rubber washers on the short gear link on my Boxercup have gone astray, do they need replacing?

They are just a dust/dirt seal, so the missing rubbers will not hurt performance.

They're very cheap to get from BMW though and worth replacing so the ball and socket joints don't get full of rubbish.
