Off subject question

Post by GerryB »

I'm a born & bred dirt biker .

I have been thinking of buying a small dual sport bike for a bit of green lane / lane exploring .

Some thing I can play with when the roads are mucky & not fret about how dirty my BM is after a quick spin .

My question is , on MCN sale page , there are dozens of Kawasaki KLX 250 for sale with 11 miles , 10 miles 3 miles etc etc ????

What is going on ?

The prices are all well above £4.5 k , so its not as if its a bike , sold then buyers decides after 3 miles he didn't want a bike ....

Any ideas why there are so many Kawasaki's advertised like this ?

It might be due to the CRF250L which I don't think is any better off road. Yamaha does the WR250X. Both of these bikes is more suited to light trail riding and short commutes. Although I must add that given the right rider it can be ridden through some technical terrain. These are heavy bikes for what it is. Then there is the XR250 which can be had for less than £2k and a very good and reliable trail bike, the TTR250 which is ideal for trails and shorter riders. Various KTM's and it can be had in 2-stroke which might appeal to some. The Suzuki DRZ400 can be had for a very reasonable price and is more powerful so an ideal stepping stone to a bigger trails bike. The Yamaha WR250 (not the X, but the 4-stroke enduro) is a particular good bike out of the box and has a huge following in the states.

I have just had a quick look and MCN is showing 27 bikes up and down the country, many with as you say, random, low mileages.

I suspect one or 2 dealers are loading the classifieds with made up second hand machines to tempt you on to a new bike. These bikes don't exist as second hand machines. Notice they are using stock photos.

Yes , I understand about the bikes .

I raced KTM's , Honda's & Suzuki DR 400s , in the early days Suzuki PE's . Yamaha IT's & before that Yamaha DT's with modified suspension ( in the '70s  )

I was just wondering why so many have such ridiculous low miles on & are sold as "second hand" ...

Found several Yamaha's , KTM's & Honda's also with sub 10 miles on the clock ? :?

Is it a conspiracy of dealers , trying to unload old stock ?

I think Kawasaki changed their sales policy two or three years ago. Maybe it has something to do with this? Pre registering bikes to get sales bonuses?

Just guessing really!

I think the Kawasaki will be a fine machine either way.

My only experiences with Kawasaki were fun .

Race a 350 & 500 triple .

Rode a 750 Turbo in a hill climb once ... looong turbo lag made for interesting cornering!

Seems odd opening throttle when entering a corner to get the boost when coming out !!!!

I'll wait & see what comes up in the next 2 months . No real hurry at this stage .

+1 on pre registered. Used to be common in the car trade - Dealer has to hit sales targets to get his bonus but is a few units short, so he sells the required number to himself to make the target and sticks them on the front as used. The bonus payment would normally more than cover the loss between the new and nearly new sales - especially if he can sell them quick
