rear diff or gearbox seal blow....... again!

"sigh" both the gearbox and the diff seal blew at 10k miles and that was done under the warrenty, now one or both has blown again at 25k miles and the warrenty has just lapsed, I luv this bike (honest)
as mines the run-of-the-mill single spark S I was wondering if the SS people had been having similar failure rates as I am starting to wonder with bringing the diff in-line with the para-lever may help in seal life?
any opinions?

I had both go (seperately) on the Rockster before 10K.
(touches wood) they've not gone again yet - 27K up now.

it's quite strange how these seals have been allowed to be so susceptable to failure, if I now have to start replacing them every 10k miles the justification of saving money on chains will disappear very rapidly
I might even have to buy another bike for everyday use and put the bmw down as a sunny day bike

The rear seal at least is only £10 (I've just bought one to carry spare) and they're as easy as pie to change - different senario when it comes to the gearbox though. Where abouts is it leaking?

the usual dribble down the front of the diff from the gatter, the last time the gearbox seal went the oil travelled down the propshaft tunnel to the diff and leaked out there, so without tugging the gatter around alot not sure which it is at present.

Ahhh - I'm getting my seals crossed - I thought it was the big one at the back - I've known about 3-4 people have that one let go and spew oil out all over the wheel. I had the inner one go in the diff (I think). By the time I noticed, I think it had run nearly dry and wa*ked the bearings too
Good luck anyway - BTW I've got a spare non ABS diff you can borrow if you need one.

if it's the gearbox one then at least it won't leak much - the seal is higher than the level of the oil and so it doesn't loose much oil - mine went in France last year and by the time I got to the ferry it had stopped leaking.

Cheers Jason, unfortunately I got that awful ABS stuff that is also causing fun, when I get my classic bike back on the road then the S will come-off and have that done and a few other little bits (the usual corrosion issues)
