Hi,

My bike needs new tyres.

Currently it has Metzeler Roadtec Z6s fitted.

Rear 180/55/17

Front 120/70/17.

What if any are considered the best all round tyres for my bike?

Michelin Pilot Road 3 work very well on my 12s, very good wear, replaced the rear at 7.5k but only cause I was doing a euro trip otherwise would have been good for at least another 1k miles, front is still on now done approx 8.5k.
They are expensive but the mileage and infrequent visits to my tyre guy make it worth it.

They made my bike more stable than the original combination of tyre, the profile does make the steering probably slower than Roadsmarts, but I just like them, and so does my wife, as they are fitted to her F800r, previously she was a Bridgstone user, but I think she has been converted lol

I've had a look but am still stumped.

The road pilot 3s are a bit more money than I wanted to spend.

I only ride my bike 8 miles to work on A roads and in the city centre. I ride all year round and in all weathers so I need a tyre that grips well in the wet.

The z6s were fitted when I bought the bike so I don't know how many miles they have done. The rear is squared off with plenty of tread left on the shoulders although this s probably to be expected as most of my journey is in a straight line. I find the the front end feeds back every imperfection in the road surface and feels a little unstable turning into corners, I don't like this. I'm not sure if this is the tyre or the suspension setup or both but fancied trying a different tyre to see if it makes any difference. I had settled on conti road attacks but have read that they tend to feedback the road surface like the metzelers seem to. Other tyres in the same price bracket seem to be michellin pilot road 2 or Pirelli Diablo.

Any advice/observations appreciated.

I have not used them myself, but the Michelin PR 2 was very highly rated by owners here, for grip and wear.

I fit Dunlop Roadsmart which are fantastic. Wet grip is extraordinary and the wear is very good. They are at the pricier end, but deals can be found now they have been superceded by the Roadsmart 2.

I don't know where you are located, but I find Wheelhouse tyres in Coleshill near Birmingham to be pretty competitive on fitted price.

Bumped in to a friend who swears by Bridgestone, just gets more and more complicated! Mytyres seem to have the best prices for most brands.

I always use Michelin Pilot Road 2's.
Put a 190/55 on the back.

My last pair of Pilot Road 2's were changed at 7700 miles and were still legal, especially the front, but a probably wouldn't have lasted for my euro trip. My current Road 3's have done 4,500 ish miles to date and still look like new, I couldn't be happier with them

My R1200S came with Maxxis fitted, and I have had no problem with them. In fact, once I got the suspension sorted, I am more confident in the handling of this bike than any I have owned before.

But now the Maxxis are at end of life (well the rear is), so I've got it book in for Pilot Road 2s to be fitted on Saturday. Based on the popularity of PR 2s versus Maxxis (which are not rated highly other than for being cheap) I am hoping for even better from the bike.

The Maxxis have done 7K miles and the rear is marginal, though it doesn't look that squared off, just a bit low on tread.

Have opted for Michelin Pilot Road 2 as they get good reviews, I haven't heard anything negative about them, and they are not the cheapest but reasonably affordable.

Must confess my 1100S came with Bridgestone BT010's and I thought they were good 12 years ago.
I have stuck with them since and have also had BT012, 014, 015, 016(both 180 rear) and am now on 023 sports touring ones.

With the exception of a front BT 003 super sports tyres that wore out in less than 900 miles I have accepted around 2500 miles from a rear and about 3500 from a front unless I was doing a lot of trackdays and Nurburgring courses when it would be less. Best fun was some Michelin hand cut slicks I had to use at Spa because I wore out the BT003's in a day and was on the track again 2 days later. Awsome grip which meant I had to replace the rocker covers as well.

I find that I am now seriously contemplating other choices because of the double mileage you guys seem to be getting, I do like the secure wet grip the Bridgestones give though.

Have a look at the prices. They don't make bad tyres any more.
