Balance shafts..

As I understand it the main reason the 12 engine is smoother than the 11's is that it's fitted with a balance shaft.
Now as these normally absorb power, do the racing guys remove/disconnect them?

Not that I know of, the general mod is to increase capacity along with the remap and head work and exhaust systems. You can ask Gus or post the question in pelican where there are a few racers.

As I understand it, most of the race bikes have only exhaust, fuelling/ecu mods. The most common internal engine mod is to uprate the oil pump . There are exceptions however. A few racers have quite highly tuned engines which pump out serious horsepower. I think the general consensus is to keep the bike reliable and bike setup and riding skill will produce results.
