Oil Thread (SORRY!)

Post by Motocod »

I know, I know - an oil thread on an internet forum! I almost couldn't bring myself to do it, but I want to keep my 11 nice, so bear with me!

It's used a little oil since I've had it (down to the minimum mark in around 1000 miles), so while I've got it on the stand (see puncture thread!) I thought I should take the opportunity to change the oil.

Can I have recommendations for grade and specific brands please?

Thanks, and sorry again for an oil thread!!

Oil

Post by DaveH »

You can use just about anything providing it meets or exceeds API SF spec, and to be honest you'll probably struggle to find such a low spec oil these days.

No need for synthetic stuff, no need for bike specific oil. (JasoM)

I use 20w50 SL spec mineral in all my air cooled boxers including the tuned 12s with no ill effect.

20 litre drum is around the £30 mark

PM me if you're interested in supplier.

Thanks Dave. That's CHEAP for oil! Does it keep ok? At best I'd only change the oil twice a year, and I'm guessing the bike only needs about 3.5-4 litres a time?

cheers,

4 litres with a filter change and engine HOT to make sure the oil cooler drains down.

It won't deteriorate if you keep it cool and capped.
