That depends on the size of your yearly profit. They do run better with the super happy juice but nothing wrong with Tesco ordinary. Shell would be my first choice and I rate Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury and BP in the same class. Refer to Fifth Gear independent testing. Shell is also better priced in my neck of the woods than BP and only a fraction cheaper than supermarket petrol for the ordinary stuff. For track days it is the super heavy duty max octane juice. So for 3 tanks of fuel every now and then ( before, during and after track day) the costs is reasonable. In the end it doesn't matter, they are continuously discovering new oil fields, so plenty to go around if you can afford it.

Need to run my Triumph Sprint on ethanol free as the plastic petrol tank swells with the shite.

R1100s has an aluminium tank so you're ok.

Run it on whatever you want it will run fine on any petrol you can get, i do tend to use super unleaded if i am doing a lot of motorway work as it vibes slightly less, then again my bike is quite a long way from stock and vibes a bit more anyway

According to my local mechanic, so long as the engine's warm it will even run on diesel if you mis-fuel it; not that I've been brave enough to test it...

I ran mine on standard unleaded with a tank full of super every now and again. Still run the GS the same way without any bother.

I used to keep milage figures etc for mine before I sold it and found no real difference in MPG but I think "super" was maybe a little smoother but no more discenable power.

On my KGT there's definately a difference, but only really noticable on long journeys, short term stuff doesn't seem to make that much difference.

There used to be a sticker on the fuel cap advising that it was best run on the full caffeine stuff but would work on the cheap stuff with lessened performance. That mysteriously vanished I think after a service, I suspect BMW cobbled a new map for it that precluded the need for champagne and let it run on bitter :)
