Non Boxer winter hack engine advice

Guys I managed to get my hands on an old K reg Suzuki RF 600 for pennies as it had sat untouched (and unloved) in a mates garage for just over 2 years. The plan is to run this over the winter to keep my R12S tip top and salt free!
So I have put new plugs, battery, brake caliper seals and brake fluid, new tyres and oil and filter and got it all together and cleaned and freed up the choke and it starts 1st time.
I started it today and its all good but the exhaust was a bit oily? Wet? Have a look
I'm just wondering if this may disappear once I actually run it and ride it (thrash it!!)
Or is that a symptom of an old bike with high'ish miles (40k) or is it due to worn carbs and too rich a mixture?
Any advice or thoughts?

Normal nothing to worry about it's just not got up to temp yet give it a run and all should be well
Don't forget for every gallon you burn you produce about the same ammount of water untill you get it up to temp
Hope this helps Dai

If the 6 is anything at all like the 9, you'll love it, I ran an RF9 for a short while many moons ago, The only problem is vibration through the pegs and bars, Getting thicker peg rubbers & heavier barends helps heaps, Enjoy

PS Both the 6 & 9 are bullet-proof, Thrash away

Thanks guys I hope your right that its bulletproof!!
I really should have researched it more before buying-I thought the parts would be the same as the other Suzuki models but NO!!
It's quite funky looking in a Ferrari sort of way
It looks better now its been cleaned and polished these photos are whenni brought it out the garage for the 1st time in over 2 years!!

Nice. Underrated bikes. You can see them becomming classics one day.
Might be worth sourcing a parts books off t'net for the RF/GSX/Bandit and GSXR. I know the frame is different but most of the engine parts should be GSX/GSXR?

No none of the parts are interchangeable with GSXR/bandits the brakes-different, the engine-different, the bodywork-definately different!!
Yeah it'll get run through winter but it will be covered in ACF50 and washed weekly so should fare ok (I hope) that's if it runs and is reliable AND it's a big and it passes its MOT!!!

Wada they mean, "If you can abide the looks....."? I think it looks very smart. Mind you I did used to own a couple of BMW K1s so what do I know?

Every time without fail,a K1 brings a smile to my face!

I may have said this before - but I'd love a K1, but I'd strip the rear end bodywork and stick K1100RS bits on there, so I could use proper panniers and top-box.
I reckon a K1 would make an excellent tourer kitted out in such a way.

How is it now?
Vibes through the bars can be helped by filling the bars with Accrylic sealant don't use sillicon it will fill your switches with slimy oily gunk
if you have old fasioned bars where the switches clamp round the bars and are not pegged sillicon is fine

No update as I haven't had time to run it or to get it MOT'd!
I have a wee problem with weeping nipples but that's another story

The rear calliper has 2 bleed nipples and are a nightmare to bleed....it doesn't help when at least one of the nipples isn't sealing. So I haven't even booked a MOT yet til I get time to replace the nipples.
Insurance is another stumbling block as my current policy (only 4 months old) doesn't allow 2 bikes so either I take out a brand new policy for 2 bikes (£250) or a separate insurance policy for the RF (with 0 NCB) for £250 or swap it straight over from the R12S to the RF for free! (Bearing in mind that the bike cost me pennies to actually buy so it seems silly to spend the same amout again for 1 years insurance!)
But that means i can't ride the R12S at all!!! Hmmmmmmmm!!

Weeping nipples i'm sure you will sort with very little bother
Insurance ouch! when will they realise you can only ride one bike at a time?

Well that's the RF insured, Taxed and believe it or not MOT'd!!
The down side is that the R12S is now parked up for the winter as I couldn't insure both
So when I get a chance it is getting the clean of its life and covered in WD40 and hooked up to the battery tender.
Just one question if I am hooking it up to the trickle charger can I set the alarm???
