HELP! Why does my brake light stay on? SOLVED!!!!

Anybody got any ideas? I've done a load of work on the bike over the weekend:- New front tire. Forks out for a repaint. ABS sensor and ring removed from front wheel cos I removed the I-ABS from the bike 5000 miles back. Battery off so I could re-paint the bat carrier. Put it all back together. Every thing works just fine but about 1 second after i turn on the ignition the brake light comes on and stays on :!: :? :(

Most likely - the switch for the rear-brake is stuck?

a spray with WD40 and a work back and fore, should do it.

I'll give that a try this afternoon Al. I thort maybe the 1second delay was a sort of fault warning :?: but everything else works good. I was pulling the breather pipes (that run behind the foot brake) about trying to re-arrange them so perhaps I've disturbed something down there. :(

Mmmm - could be an ABS fault, I've not got ABS. check the manual?

Turn on the ignition with the front brake already applied.

If the brake light comes on immediately - then it prob ain't the back brake switch that is faulty - it could be a remnant of your ABS-ectomy

Quite likely, it's only a little microswitch & the breather pipes can foul it.

That would be my guess as well but i can't work out the delay

I hope you're right Mr 'feral'. As I say, because I had the front wheel out I took the opportunity to remove the (redundant?) ABS sensor and also the 'ring' from the wheel. On re-assembly I followed the proceedure
of IGN-ON, Open=Close throttle 4 times IGN-OFF without engine start. Working on the theory that it's absense had registered a fault with what's left of the ABS 'brain' I again removed the tank and re-fitted the ABS sensor but to no avail. And yes Dai, That's the bit that's worrying me. :? I was fettling till late last night and loseing concentration. I'll tackle it afresh after lunch
Here's a pic of what's left of my I-ABS that's still fitted to the bike. One of my tasks was to make a weather-proof cover for it out of an old VHS-Vid case.

Hmmm ... I thought you'd removed the lot

On the ABS bikes the brake switches feed into the ABS unit which then provides the signal to the lamp. Bloody ABS

I left the plug on in case I needed to'backtrack'. As I say it's given no probs since I removed the I-ABS 5000 miles back. I'm off to my garage, the other side of town now to check the rear brake micro switch. I hope you're right and that's the problem. :) Watch this space :!:

It's realy crying out for a Val Singleton there Nick all the crap will then just fall to the bottom of the filter and not block anything, once a year take it off tip upside down to empty sprey from outside with brake cleaner then when dry spray with 3 in 1 with ptfe put it back forget about it for another year
I got my K&N from OPIE oil's [can't remember the part number but it's on here many times and should be easy to find]
