Did I deserve it?!!!
Coming home today in heavy traffic I stopped short of a junction that had solid non-moving traffic at the other side so oncoming traffic wanting to turn right could do so. A car came past me on the inside and blocked the junction. I gave a friendly little toot and pointed out he was blocking the junction. I haven't heard such an string of expletives and gesticulations for a long time. Was it wrong of me to point out this inconsiderate driver's error?

Unfortunately, chimpanzees like this drive among us
. The sort of person who reacts with aggression when they're embarrassed by having their mistake pointed out to them - no matter how carefully done. I tend to just let it go nowadays, having been threatened before.
No, you weren't wrong, but being right is cold comfort when said tosser takes a swing at you

It must be the day for it. I was cut up by white van man, turned in front of by a man who didnt seem to care that I was there and then nearly sliced in half by a golf as he was trying to hide behind a bus on a roundabout.
Eventually I made it the half mile to the petrol station!!!

It's been my (admitedly, very limited) experience that most motorist won't get out of their car when they find themselves in a 'comfrontational' situation with a (scary
) biker. They'll stay in their car and wind up the windows an then start giving 'good verbal'. Which is not to say they're above useing their vehicle as a weapon. Some years ago a pal of mine and his 7months pregnant girlfriend were 'punted' off in broad daylight, in Wolves town centre on Saturday afternoon by a bloke that simply resented being 'filtered past' at the lights. Several witnesses attested to seeing his deliberate and agresive action that put my mate in traction for 6months. Luckily his girl was relativly unharmed.
On a lighter note;A couple of months ago I installed HID systems in both head and dip and though they are both perfectly aligned (yes I know they are ilegal on non self-leveling vehicles but it passed the MOT last week
) I suspect they are so bright that the dip beam, even in broad daylight, has an amazing effect on motorist who have suddenly started putting their wheels in the gutter just to get me out of their rear-view mirror
My advice; get sum and get em fitted toot sweet.
Judging by how much they've knocked off my regular jouney time I'd say that they're probably worth another 40BHP at least.

BMW car driver I shouldn't wonder (or a four wheel drive BMW, Range Rover, Merc, etc). There seems to be an unwritten rule that as soon as you are given one of these cars to drive you are immediately required to become an inconsiderate w*nker and all other road users are plebs who do not know what they are talking about and therefore should be silenced with a verbal tirade (accompanied by hand gestures).f800s wrote:Coming home today in heavy traffic I stopped short of a junction that had solid non-moving traffic at the other side so oncoming traffic wanting to turn right could do so. See it all the time, both driving and riding. It is also apparent whenever you have a patch of grass outside an establishment. Some f*cking w*nker in a 4X4 will take that as being a car parking space. Particularly noticeable outside schools during the school run and also at my local gym where 4X4 pilots will park on the grass verge 30 yards from the front door rather than walk the 100 years across the car park. It's not a car parking space you tw*t, its a grass verge designed to like pretty and besides it's a f*cking gym for christ sake, you are supposed to get some exercise walking from the car to the gym.
and relax

I for one can recomend the HID conversion
Nick's right after dark they sure as hell are worth about 40BHP
Remember tho if they are not looking for you they wont see you
I will always remember talking to a bike cop one day and he said about how one day a car pulled out on him the driver gave it the SMIDSY the two tones were sort of going beep and the blue lights were still flashing the bike was wedged under the car, the downside to this was that if they are involved in an accident it's assumed they are at fault untill proved otherwise and that can take a long time
Keep safe out there Dai

People criticise the 'smart' CCTV enforcement cars, but from my point of view they do a good job.
My job is running the grass cutting section of the London borough where I work.
We maintain parks, schools, housing and street verges. Unlike the previous authority where I worked (who didn't have smart cars) we never get any problems with people parking on the grass...

2011 Harley-Davidson FLD Switchback - yeah, I know. I've always wanted one though...
I guess the big difference is:
Did I deserve it? and Should I have predicted it?
edit: [by predicted - I mean "Predicted the shit's reaction"]
In general - a lot of people drive "angrily" - being a combination of frustration with roads/trafic, and the probability that they aren't too tightly wrapped in the first place.
Some people you see on the roads - you can kind of predict that they go home and beat up their wife.

But seriously, when you come out of a shop and accidently bump into someone on the street, more often than not, both parties apologise before moving on. Why is that when we jump behind the wheel, our mind-set changes and all hell breaks loose
