Starter motor test
Hi, does any one know how to test a starter motor, I thought my battery had failed so replaced that as the engine wasn't being turned over properly, if I added a booster battery it just about did the job to start the engine. The starter motor engages and does enough of a job to turn the pistons over maybe once but then dies. Having taken the starter off, I can just about rotate the thing but is really difficult. How do I connect it to a battery to spin it up without any load ?

With the motor off you will find 2 big contacts for the starter. There is a smaller contact that is made when the ignition is turned to start the motor.

Bridge the feed from the big positive to the smaller switch to spin the starter motor. IE the red wires in the diagram.
A quick google for a video to show a bit more than can be explained in as least words as possible.
