Surprised no one has mentioned the new BMW Power Commander as mentioned in this weeks comic, Way to go or not?? Your thoughts please.

The best way to go if the price is reasonable.And there shouldnt be any reason why it would be more expensive than one for a say a r1 or gsxr.
Or am being naive?Its a BMW add 30% surcharge for being wealthy by association.
Its been talked about on the pelican site.
I will get one if the price aint wallet busting.It also needs dyno time to get the perfect setup for your bikes combo/state of tune etc.
I did a dyno on my bike with a k&n/laser cat eliminator.So i have a base setting as such to compare.
I,ve since added a induct(which i am very impressed with).
I reckon a properly setup power commander will make the bike so much better concerning throttle response and drivability.Any gain in horse power will not be great.But it aint about that.It will be better than going down the chip route,as it can be tuned to your specific application/setup.

Have got mine on order already, dont know how much yet but as its a wide band unit whatever that means i guess it will be at least 50% more expensive than a standard one.

The same question I've been wanting to ask - but I daren't post it on Pelican.

The Techlusion is only about 220 quid which is a plus point.

As far as I understand the Techlusion unit can only richen the mixture whilst the power commander can also weaken if necessary.

I am interested because according to John Baines (Baines Racing - one of THE best Ducati specialists), mine is running much too weak.

It has Lasers with the rear baffle removed, no cat. and the Laser chip fitted. Now that it is starting to loosen up I let John Baines ride it to get his opinion. Apart from the fact that he liked it (well it is a twin) he reckoned that I would be completely wasting my time in changing anything on the inlet side, unless I did something about the fuelling. So for the moment the K&N and the mods to the inlet pipe will have to wait.

So Power Commander or Techlusion - That IS the question

The difference as far as I can remember as explained to me is that the techclusion (which I had on mine untill it packed up) is that the techclusion only samples every 5 or 600 rpm but the power commander samples every 200 rpm or something like that cant really remember.
The techclusion did make a noticeable difference but still did not get the mixture to a perfect level across the range it was again from memory ok at low rpm and fine at high rpm but not very good within the cruise range ie 75mph to say about 95mph.
The Power Commander as stated in todays comic at £420. does sound steep especially when you have to add to that a couple of hours dyno time I guess you wont be getting much change from maybe £550.

It's the one thing i've sat on the fence over,i had a good look at the Techlusion and that didn't float my boat as has already been said you can only richen it up,i have to say with an Induct+K+N and my quirky exhaust mines always run pretty well but have always viewed the Power Commander as the way to go,the only other option was SuperChips i think Justin had one on his.

The San Jose Power Commander is just a Power Commander for a Triumph Tripple works ok but would need lots of dyno time to get the right map, and it's not wideband ie for a closed loop injection system.

Be assured that when they do become available I will post all of the results before during and after.

As far as to which BM's they will suit I am sure the S and the GS will be high on the list
