|
|
My question:
| Quote: | | Why is there a 10% pre tax cost increase for a UK purchase of a Europe map download? US: $139.99 (£83.38 accoring to xe.com) UK: £92.17. They should be the same.. it's a download. |
They said...
| Quote: | Dear Simon,
Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.
Thank you for raising this query which I am more than happy to assist you with.
The conversation rates on our Website are not an exact conversion rate with the current market.
The overall Business / living costs in America are generally higher which increases repair prices, accessory purchases and mapping purchases such as this download.
Unfortunately if you require this download and are based within the UK, you will need to pay the Sterling price.

Conversation rates.. OK
But does that answer make sense to you? .. I would have thought business / living costs were higher here.. _________________ Simon with a

Same thing going on with ITunes across europe, basically, we are in the UK and therefore deserve to be stitched up, _________________ --------------------------- |

well i think that the average wage is lower than ours and from our point of view everything does look a lot cheaper but as they have a higher population a lot more goods are moved so production costs should be lower, therefore meaning a lower purchase price. so if you only take into account the exchange rate it IS cheaper but if one lives and works there perhaps it is more expensive in relative terms for the americans.
however; does garmins' answer not contradict itself...

they state that prices are more expensive in the states because of business/living costs but it is in fact the uk price that is more.
i don't think they answered you question correctly because they didn't read it properly. all they've done is to reiterate that if you live in the uk you shall have to purchase at the uk price. no actual explanation as to the price difference as far as i can see. |

Same old, same old. Rip off Britain again.
As you say, 'its a bloody download' so how can it be more expensive? Because its being sold into the UK thats why.
Why is it more expensive? Because we are mug enough to pay it. If everyone started voting with their feet and stop buying the stuff the prices would soon come down but by which time we would have already worked out that we didn't really need it in the first place.
