Finished up with 5k miles on my 021's ,and fitted another set of ........road attacks............ and yes they are quieter

FWR always seemed to give the best deal in London from the admittedly few calls I made around suppliers.
Maybe that's changed, I've done so few miles on the bike of, I only put a new front on last year - thinking about it, I think the rear is an old pilot road....

Hi - have you done a search? I polled the board in some detail recently and found that Pilot Road 2 were the most favoured for my sort of riding (similar mileage to you I daresay).

I had conti road attacks first and they were OK but the rear squared very quickly. Think I had 020's before that, didn't rate them at all and they're now a pretty old tech tyre. There's a chap on ebay called roundandblack who mail-order supplies tyres from a Universal tyre depot (all legit). He was the cheapest when I checked (175 quid ish?) and sent them very quickly. I think he'll price match anywhere but you'll have to get 'em fitted.

Metzeler Roadtec MEZ6 - £190 fitted to the bike and are giving more miles than the Bridgestones BT020's that I used to use. I was typically changing 020's, rear at 4-5.5K and fronts at 6-7k however the Metz seem to be lasting a few thousand miles more per set.

After the 020s and 010s, I went to Pilot Road 2s last summer. I thought these were as good as the Bridgestones. Haven't ridden the bike for a few weeks lately, and then used it after all the salt/crap/rain/slime appeared. Was expecting the usual pig on roller skates feeling, especially seeing as the family megane was all over the place due to the condition of the roads. Couldn't believe how secure the Michelins felt, compared to what I'd been expecting.

I still like Metzeler Z6s - last for 6k rear I think - about £160 a pair on eBay delivered from that Round and Black fella (name of the shop rather than a description of the seller!) ... do create a lot of road noise though and a strange whirring from the front

Avon Storm ST 's for me. £175 fitted. Good grip wet or dry, nice turn in and have done 4K with loads left on them and virtually no squaring off.

Tried to get a pair of Road Pilot 2's yesterday only to find once the front tyres was off they did'nt have any (with the rear already fitted)!! SO we now have a RP2 on the rear and a Pilot Power on the front (not the perfect choice bit we'll see). Tyres fitted, new pads both ends, drive in to drive out 60mins and £260! The guys at Downham Road rock!
PS. Realised that the cost quoted in my first post included three sets of puncher laces and two bradles! Dhoo!!
I'll post how the "odd" set performs, in theory the front should be better grip with slightly short life span than the RP2, only time will tell.

Did you miss the bit about "pads at both ends"? thats three sets of pads fitted along with the tyres!
SO thats 2x tyres (including the Dhoo moment) 3x sets of pads fitted, from drive in to drive out 60 minutes.

I didn't miss it - and I'd say that's pretty damn good value if you ask me.

Original Bridgestones: noisy rear gone at about 5K Fair traction and stiff ride
Maxxix Supermaxx rear: inexpensive (comparatively) mileage about 6500 w/ a lil tread left
Conti Road Attacks; good in wet, 2 weeks and 5500 miles of US western mountain roads 2-up and the rear went away just in time to get home. Good traction 2 up wet or dry. Quiet and good ride
Pirelli Diabli Strada: good traction and decent in rain, 5K + looks good, fairly sticky for street use, changed out before gone due to long trip
Metzler Z6: rear has made 2 trips and lots of daily commuting so far. Estimate 8 K rear and 11-12K front. So far my fave.
Pilot road pending maybe ???
