Well i have say this board is one of the more honest, and you have to give the man his 15 seconds of glory,he's taken allcomers on,and with the help!!!!! of the BMW marketing dept been proven right.

It took BM years to get the sales going on the 1100s,launched in 98,i bet it was 2002 before sales really got going, dragged punters away from other makes, then kicked e'm in the balls, with 1200,what kind of marketing policy is that, and their still at it,look at the 3 traillie things they launched,i bet 2 of the 3 get chopped within 18 months,BM may have generated a load of coverage HP2,MegaMoto,and this latest 1200,i bet sales ain't even in the hundreds.

The rest he rabbits on about is tosh,i use a centerstand on my Tiger cuz i need to the oil the chain,in nearly 8 years of owning my S,never even thought about one, except the one i sold on here along with the panniers,an option sure, necessity?? no chance,in fact talking to one of the guys on a certain mag the other day,i explained how my other half packs the bike,he was gob smacked, never thought of that, was all he could offer, people just pile it in,instead of what do i need, and how do i pack it.

Get stuck in a traffic jam in a tunnel in Switzerland, and not be able to filter between the cars, that'll bloody cure you of hard panniers i can tell you.

Hard panniers are convenient for security reasons but I wouldn't say they are a necessity. As for centre stands, I've used my paddock stand once since I got it and that was for changing the tyre. However, most places will take the wheel out for you now, I only did mine myself as I had to get a tyre for my KTM at the same time so took both in the car.

I don't reckon they will pull the plug on the R1200S completely, probably just pause production while they clear their existing stock. I don't think I've met anyone who is anything less than delighted with their R1200S. I think a good majority of R1100S owners will be more than satisfied if and when they trade up.

Fantastic!

Now is the time to put your own spin on the 'facts' that are in the rumours column in MCN!

That is a switch around - usually anything that is in the comic is greeted by howls of derision.

Nobody KNOWS anything. Those who do KNOW will not be telling. Even if the rumours are true, only a few people will know the real reasons and they will certainly not be telling us.

Funny thing,i used to think that poncy journos, couldn't find their collective arse with either hand blah blah blah,i work with e'm nowere days, there more hard core bikers than i'm am and that saying summat,if they've put that in the comic it'll have a decent source.

I don't see the R12S as a replacement for the R11S. I think it has a totally different approach. According to my dealer there were only 600 R1200Ss imported into the US in 2007 and the R1200ST was a special order only bike in 2007 so I would say that the production was probably "limited".

Most premium manufactures try to limit production to just below demand to keep market values high and as good as it is, the R1200S is not a generalist and it's not for everyone. I walked by a lot of great bikes to buy the R12s; the Speed Triple, the Super Duke, the FZ1/R1 and the 999 to name a few. They were all less money. Not everyone will do this.

The HP bikes are hand assembled off of the regular production lines and are not intended for regular consumption (one reason for the high price tags).

Until my BMW dealer tells me they've stopped making them then as far as I'm concerned they're still making them.

MCN spouts utter rubbish every week.

Here are some examples of 'jounalism'
BMW win Le Mans - actually they only won their class and since everything else in their class (2 ducatis, a matisse and a benelli) went kaputt they didn't really win - they did well, but the word 'win' is just a technicality.

TVR buy Benelli - yeah, right. What with?

It Lives! - this line related to the highly successful Norton Nemesis. Oh Just a second...lets adjust that headline 'Its a lump of clay!'

R1200s HP2 makes 20bhp more then R1200s - err wrong. BMW quote 128 for the HP2 and 122 for the R1200s.

BMW to enter MotoGP!

Every other week MCN dish out some story about how the government are going to ban bikes. They do this to up their circulation - we're meant to worry and cough up 1.90 to see if we are about to become extinct.
What democratic country has banned motorcycles? none.

I only buy MCN to see the new bikes.

When I bought my R1200s back in March I got a good deal and since 2 BMW dealers were working on the same rules I knew something was up. If I bought ex. stock the discount was big - but If I wanted a spec they didn't have I could expect to wait 16 weeks and pay full price.
My dealer actually built my bike out of two stock bikes rather then order one from teh factory.

With the R1200s HP2 making only 128bhp - only 6bhp more then now and rumoured to cost £14,000 I was thinking that the HP2 was an excercise in getting people to buy the current bike - if you know what I mean.

Everywhere I take the bike it gets looks - people looking at it and saying 'I didn't know BMW did anything like this?'

BMW's main problem is that it has not got a sportsbike following yet so any sports bike is going to have to be something special before people sit up and take notice...like a 1000cc inline 4 maybe.

Those sure are some fine quality stickers if they impress a BMW sales manager. I hear there are matching tee-shirts too!
