I've just got the 3 presently - the S, the Fazer 1000, and the GSA. I keep 2 on the road at a time so I always have a spare and the other 2 get rotated on a weekly basis unless one is in the motorbike hospital feeling poorly
I reckon you could just do the 'wife swap' thing - put all the keys in a bowl, take a random pick then take it for a good hard ride

I am down to 2, S and Vespa.
Had a trick R6 track bike which was brilliant but after 2 years of regular caning was just sat in the yard festering.. it went this autumn
Vespa gets used for zipping around london when I need to wear normal clothes (back light cover fell off the other day pending replacement). It costs almost zero to run and is a design classic.
S gets used for everything else not involving dog.
Every wednesday I tend to want a new bike (shit its tomorrow) however of late I appear to have developed a fixation with early 90s german cars
Generally, I love the S, most of the time..
On the wife swap front - any exotic italians out there
Oh and a motorbike would be good..

Just the S in the garage.
Fancy the look of the new Ducati Supermoto though.
I must have my priorities in life all wrong as I have more cars than bikes. If only our summers were longer then I'd have it the other way around.
VW Corrado (cracking V6 - for sale), Alfa 145 for work and shopping, Lancia VX Coupe (supercharged) for fun.

Funny that it was mentioned about
"not riding one of the bikes anymore" - that's exactly what my thought process was regarding the R1200s/BoxerCup.
I bought the BoxerCup as my first ever bike and probably attach some sentiment to that fact. I use it for afternoons/days out and also for touring with the panniers thrown on.
6 months after getting it, I had a hankering for something with a couple more cylinders, a multi-plate clutch and a lot lighter................ hence the Daytona 650 (lurvely bike).
Then, a couple of months ago - bought the GS1200Adv in preparation for a tentatively-planned trip to Iceland next year.
Now the loose plan is to chop in the Daytona for an R1. I know the R1200s is a brilliant bike and would suit my sports needs, but ............................. I would hardly use the BCR if I had an R1200s in the garage
So, It'll either be an R1 or hang on to the Daytona.
I just cannot justify 4 bikes
Mind you...........................

Stoney - thanks for the link, I didn't even know that group existed (BMWGS)
Jason M - Thanks for that. It was a plan by some of the fellas in BMWRidersScotland to have a couple of weeks to do Iceland (including travel there/back) but I'm not sure if we are closer to going or are still just wishing willfully

It was to be in July/August (school holidays)
I'll find out if we are closer to a decision and get back to you on that.
It is always good to keep in touch with like-minded riders - there is more of a chance of pulling off the event

I know what you mean about the sentimental attachment thou. Its a bit like your first real girlfriend. You move on but years later you wonder what it would have been like if you had stayed together

I wonder if someone could start up a 'Bikes Reunited' website?? opps, better stop now just in case the wife reads this
I must say that I think you have it about right, with a comfy go anywhere tourer, a proper sports bike (go for the R1) and the BCR, but do you actually use all three regularly or does one or even two of them just sit there doing nothing, except loose value and cost even more money??
Know what you mean about the 1200s being abit close to the 1100s, in terms of character at least. having riden one I understand why so many on here have defected. Still doesn't look as good as my BCR though

I'll have to wait for the HP version to come out.

Of bikes i've had over the years,all but a handfull have been bought privately,in another life 20 years ago i sold e'm from home for sixmonths,i has a spell late 90's when i bought a new Africa Twin and then bought a Triumph Tiger after 2 years P/X it,it cost me £2,500 and the bike,after the deal i thought feck this,if i keep the bike 4 years i've still got the bike and 5 grand to spend!!,and on that basis neither my S or Tiger owe me a cent.
Of course everyone buys their bike for different reasons,i don't think Peter even has a car,some people use e'm for makeing a liveing,bit like stocks and shares,you only loose money when you sell e'm!!.
As for loosing money when you not useing e'm,what you going do?? look at your bank account!!!,and think how much money you've got!!,no pockets in shrouds.

Know what you mean. Promised myself that I would not invest in a 'new' bike until the 90s was back on the road but then I took the R1200s out earlier this year and that started it. Problem was that the BCR looked great, IMO much better than the R1200s, so that was that.......one very low mileage BCR in the garage.
I then took out the new 1200r (just for interest) and realised that truthfully, the 1200 lump is actually quite a bit better than the 1100 and that then set me thinking about the 1200s again..............
So, I then collected my newly sprayed tank, seat cowl, fairing, etc for my 90s (fantastic job - better than BMW 1975 new) and just in general banter dicovered that my friendly sprayer has a friend thinking of selling his DBD34.................now I've always had a hankering after a real Goldie!

As I use mine daily I ride the one that has petrol in it. At service time it's the one with the least bald tyres etc. If I need to carry things then it's a no-brainer for the S - that's unless she's in the front garden & difficult to extract then it's the TLS chained to a tree on the pavement which offers the fastest getaway.
Garage - luxury I tell you.

I harbour fantasies about meeting up with my old Suzi GT380 and reliving our torrid relationship. But in reality, she was always very unpredicatable, she smoked too much, was always a bit overweight and probably looks really dowdy and worn by now.

I guess I also bought the Adv for touring trips that I didn't want to take the BCR on. I don't mind bunging the pan-ears and topbox on the BCR to get to a destination, and go out every day with no luggage - but for actual touring - I don't like the looks or bulk of the full-on pan-ears..........hence the 1200Adv (..and I paid a lot less than £10k

)
I actually use all three bikes, although I would use the Daytona a lot more if I didn't conciously "decide" to take one of the others
I'm not sure if I'm sentimental about my first girlfriend, but I know that each of the bikes I have is a better r*de than my ex

(cost less to maintain too

)

I've a R1100S for the daily commute. It's light, comforable, and slips through the traffic easily. I'm just hoping it'll last through the winters
I've an FJR1300 for touring.
I wouldn't consider touring on the R1100S:-
The tank's too small.
The seat's too small, and the rear perch is too high.
It doesn't carry enough luggage for two up for two weeks.
The screen's too small.
