Actually that's a fair one.
I'm surprised they recommend that long.
Mattresses are a jungle of dust mites and bedbugs, milling around among dried remnants of blood, saliva, sweat and basically all the other bodily fluids you can think of, and a mattress cover doesn't stop them.

Guess I'd better check with Dunlop to see if it's gonna be a safety issue.......
Plus sizing your tyres without informing your insurer may invalidate your insurance.
In case of such modification, informing your insurer (in writing) may do the trick.
It may result in an increase in premium but at least you'll have valid insurance.

Thanks for the insurance heads up.

However I don't think that it would be classed as a plus size, as Dunlop have advised that a 190/50 is a valid size on a 5.5" rim.......

That's OK then.
Insurers can get funny if you use non manufacturer recommended tyres.
Manufacturer, being the maker of the bike, not tyre.
The rule of thumb is go with what the handbook says.
That's what insurers refer too when they are trying to get out of, ER SORRY, "considering" an accident claim

I have never ever heard of an insurance assessor even knowing what tyres are recommended by a manufacturer let alone querying a claim on that basis. Bald tyres or wrong size maybe but never make.

I was referring to size.
You'll find the bike manufacturers tyre recommendations in the handbook.
I said nothing about makes.

I said nothing about make.
I clearly stated that you should use the tyres recommended by the manufacturer, as per the handbook.

The handbook gives the correct size tyres for the bike you have.

I fitted a Michelin Pilot 3 to my 12S but a 190 55 not a 190 50 as per the manual. That's all they had and the price was good. I was very pleasantly surprised at how much better the bike handled.

Did you fit the 190/55 to the wider, 6" rim, rear wheel?

How did the handling differ?
