Hello Boxerscott,
I hear you, nothing wrong at all with the look of the bike and the OEM exhaust. It's just its a bit...pop pop pop splutter pop pop pop! She isn't the smoothest at low speed which I think is in part due to the way she's tuned and the "throttled" OEM exhaust. I've only fitted a power commander so far and that has certainly improved the way she runs at lower revs, but she still doesn't feel quite right, although cracking at higher speeds.
I'm not looking for more speed, she's plenty fast enough, but it is a race bike and I think it should sound a little more like one, its part of the thrill of the ride. This is my 7th BMW (amongst other's), having had a mix of K's and R's (I keep going back to R's), but by far the nicest sounding one of all was my R1100S with Laser exhaust system. Why is it the OEM exhausts on all BM's seem to be overly muted beyond any legal requirement? Just have a listen to a Ducati, Guzzi, or any other twin for that matter if you understand what I mean!
Anyway, I always keep the original parts for when I sell, which won't be for a long time. As you say, it's a collectable
Thank you and to all for your contributions to date, it's been really good to chat and get others input.
Cheers,
Andrew
