But, if memory serves from a previous life, you need to ensure that you and your work station are grounded before touching the chip, once out of it's board socket. A static shock could well kill it. RS, Maplin etc knock out anti-static wrist bands and straps for this type of work (well, they used to).

Is yours a twin spark? John has been asking me to send me the binary file from my ECU but I'm a bit loathe to disturb it - I can't face having to strip the bike down to get to it.
