As you can see from the list below we have a bit of a collection of vehicles, normally a car is a tool for everyday crap, but since having had a couple of ragtops I would not want to be without one now, although saying that the MR2 is the most impracical car I have ever owned but in some ways more fun than the bike

Car = metal box for carrying people/stuff around in.

I've long lost the desire to own any kind of 'flash' or 'prestige' car as personally I cannot see the point these days. Our present cars were bought because they're cheap to run, reliable, carry the sort/amount of stuff we need to put in them over the roads we drive most commonly. They both have chain-driven cams so no belts to worry about, are relatively simple mechanically, and fulfil our needs just fine. The little Pug is also a riot to drive. :)

Skoda Fabia 1.2 HTP
Peugeot 107

I won't touch a modern diesel with a bargepole either, especially the PSA/Ford 1.6HDi. Ticking time-bombs, and we speak from bitter experience along with hundreds of other people. Look up '1.6HDi turbo failure' on the Internet. Truly scary. A shame, as otherwise it's a sweet little engine.

I just traded down to a Hyundai i20. Small, economic and the missus will drive it - she wouldn't drive my Laguna tank, and our daughter has taken over the wife's.

My favourite car I ever owned was an MG Magnette Varitone that I had in my teens, followed by a white Mk III Cortina in my 20s. But I've never been wowed by cars really.

Being a tight-fisted old git now, I want my car to be cheap to run and start on the coldest morning, and not have parts made of cheese like the tank did.

I got pissed off with haemorrhaging cash on flash cars that spent most of their time sitting on the driveway. So we got this 3 yrs ago.....

1989 Saab 900 Turbo, 31k on the clock, needed a bit of tarting up, but goes like a bird. It stands out from the herd, it's comfortable and you can carry big loads around in it. It's nice to drive, it handles well and it's fast ...so you can have great fun surprising people in BMWs and Audis! Best of all I've got no worries about depreciation.

I had one of those.
The vvti roadster.
In the end I found that with the roof down, I always felt like a complete knob driving it, but then it was bright green as well.

Honda civic from new and now nine years old and only replaced the front pads.
Boring as hell but I'm not complaining as bikes do it for me.

The Mitsubishi is quite a fun little car, I think its running around 150HP from a turbo engine engine that loves to rev. The factory Barry wheels are too big though.

My commute had changed from country roads to Motorway so its not best suites. I travel a fair bit with work and can't use the bike everyday.

My Ovlov is now redundant and will be lobbed on Gumtree. A nice car, but getting back to bikes has meant it doesn't get used.

Been through a load of cars in the last couple of years - probably because I was doing a 230 mile daily commute, so would just run them until they broke.
It wasn't worth having a decent car as the mileage would just kill them - with depreciation as well as wear & tear. The ones I can remember are:
Freelander TD4 (on the subject of Freelanders, don't ever buy a petrol one. Ever!)
Golf Mk2 GTD
Mercedes A class diesel
Bora TDI
All above were scrapped, except the Golf which I sold for a profit after lunching the gearbox :D
Currently running the two below. The Jag is the wife's for occasional use (until it breaks, then it's ours), and the Saab is the family runabout. Having a four year old boy means travelling most places at weekends with a bike and / or scooter in tow. The estate car is my friend......
I do like cars though - I'm an ex dealership mechanic that still works very much in the industry (although at manufacturer level now - and not getting my hands dirty) and it was my love of cars as a child that made me follow that career path.

This steed has various roles - depending on which other car or bike is on/off the road: weekend fun/track car, daily driver, long-distance mile eater, and dog car.

Also a '93 Laser (which won't die (250k kms) and is a hoot to thrash around mountain roads). It usually does all the mundane stuff.

Found elsewhere on the 'net: a person with good motoring taste. Oh btw the vehicle on the left is an R1200S BMW. [smilie=mutley laugh.gif]
