I couldn't find a source for just the mirror glass anywhere locally, but I did manage to buy a complete right-side mirror on ebay for $76. I needed a left.
I heated them both in the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit (120 degrees Celsius) and very carefully pried the good mirror out of the right assembly - without breaking it, whew. Let it cool to room temperature and installed it in the very hot left assembly. The mirror glass literally dropped into place in the heat expanded plastic.
I can confirm that the left and right mirror glass is indeed identical.
I measured the thickness of the mirror glass. It is 1.8mm thick. There does appear to be ample clearance for thicker glass if that's all you can find.

Mark7, thanks for the tip - just tried and it worked great. Ha d my left mirror glass replaced in no time at all.
After surfing fleabay I realized that the glass in the F800ST mirrors is the same as in R11S. Bought several F800ST mirrors for about $25 each, cut one open and removed the glass. Will keep the other one just in case....
It is what it is, and it wil be what it has been...
Thanks for the hints - works on a 2009 R1200GS mirror, had to heat up the oven to over 200C very close to heat elements for over 10 minutes before it would pop in - used Fatties 4.375" round convex mirror replacement. "600%" widened view they claim, reduction of glare at night.
