Brake Pads

Post by scotty »

The brake pads on the bike are needing renewed shortly. Anyone know of some good replacements that work well. I understand that the BMW ones are quite pricey.

Thanks

The best pads are imo Dunlopad, DP Sport HH+. The part no's are somewhere on the Pelican forums in one of my posts.

The beat the EBC HH pads with ease.

Thanks throttlemeister, I'll try and locate a set of these.

I had a new front tyre put on the other week and when the calipers were off I noticed that there is not much room to work re servicing the brakes. Ideally one needs to try and work each piston in/out applying brake solution to enable the pistons to operate freely and without sticking. Do you have any tips here. How do you tackle this service area ?

1999-2001: DP615, DPS615 (sintered HH+)
2002-2005: DP639, DPS639 (sintered HH+) (Tokico (backside) calipers, marked BMW)
2002-2005: DP641, DPS641 (sintered HH+) (Brembo (backside) calipers, marked BMW)

You will want the DPS versions. These are sintered HH+. The others are regular pads.

Depends on how well you want to do it. :)

You can pop the pistons out and drain the system. Gives you best oppertunity to clean everything and make it as new,

Or you can carefully extend each piston one at a time, clean what needs to be cleaned and push them back in and move to the next. The space you have seems small, but it is enough when the pads are out to do maintenance.
