I've just come to the bit where I change the clutch and brake fluid on the 'S'. I dug out pipe with the clutch bleed valve after searching for it for ages! Seems it needs a seperate bleed nipple to screw into it in order to bleed. Rang Southport Superbikes, against my better judgement - absolute total f**kin' disinterest. :roll: The guy tells me that I need a special tool to do the job, he can probably order one and it'll cost about £130 - 140 +vat :shock: and he can't say how long it'll take to come. :evil:

Then I rang Motorworks - what difference, they couldn't be more helpful. The guy is sending me 2, 10mm bleed nipples, one for the brakes and one for the clutch. Told me how to change them - cost £11-00

If BMW took as much interest then maybe their products would be somewhere near the extortionate amount of money they charge for them. :?

Dave, are you going to use a vacum bleeder of some sort.
I have just invested in a compressor and I am now browsing the many air tools available :)

One of them is a brake bleeding kit.

Ian.......... I've had a compressor in my workshop for years, I've got most air attachments, although these days it gets used mainly for spraying guitars.
I've never used a vacuum brake bleeder - never felt the need for one, although when you're bleeding dry lines I would imagine one would be a godsend! I'm only changing the fluid, so it's just a case of pump out the old and feed in the new. It just pisses me off that BMW design things so that if you're not a bit resourceful then the bike HAS to go their dealership for simple jobs.


Riceburner........... I'd settle for ANYONE with a connection to BMW to
take an interest. There's something wrong with their aftersales if better service is more forthcoming from an independent supplier.

Gromit, yep - I realised after I'd posted it that this should have been in the Dealer and products bit - Soz :oops:

Dave - it's no problem at all. :)

Just thought that if anyone does have a bad experience with a dealer/supplier etc they can just log it in the 'Recommended etc' section.

Just to prove not all dealers are disinterested when I had my S serviced at Balderstons they binned the fancy 'speed' bleed (or whatever they're called) parts in favour of the more conventional stuff.

They've also just split an accessory socket kit so that they can send me just the cable in time for the weekend as they didn't have one in stock and wouldn't get it until next Tuesday.

I know they're not local to you but they're happy to put stuff in the post.

Just over 30 blats for a kit which should make life a lot easier - wonder how it'd cope with the ABS system?

I have just obtained a Draper Vacumn brake bleeder and it woks just great.

I guess it must have taken about 10 mins to replace the fluid in both back and front systems.

However do be aware that these are now a discontinued line by Draper and it is unlikely that spare parts will be available in the future.

Adam, I realise that not all Beemer dealerships are the same, it just so happens that my nearest one....SOUTHPORT SUPERBIKES.....are the probably the worst in the country. I've been to Jeffreys a few times and they are absolutely brilliant...they actually give a damn! They know their stuff too. But Southport .....I'd torch the place for twopence! They're a bloody disgrace, I cannot understand how they've kept their franchise for so long (probably bloody Masons! Oops controversial ....yet again) :mrgreen:

Just ordered mine before they run out of stock.
It's still listed on the Draper website though.

Got the bleed nipples from MotorWorks in the post this morning, excellent service I only ordered them yesterday afternoon. The stoopid "speedbleed" thingymajigs have now been resigned to the bin! No problem changing them, they're a bit tight especially the clutch one, but that's more to do with the fact you can't get hold of the bugger properly - it's not fastened to anything. I bunged it in a mug of boiling water for a few minutes and it came unstuck ok. It'll be a lot easier to bleed the brakes and clutch from now on.
