I know this has probably had a lot of posts some of which I've spent most of my Sunday searching through but I would like to know just how common this problem is. I know it relates to most oil heads, but from what I can make out it seem not to affect models built around a certain year as I've read of R series models from 99 to 04 having this.
What I'd really like to know if any of you guys have never had this issue with your bikes
Only asking as I have owned my R1100s for about a year now with 24,000 mls on the clock, I brought this bike thinking as long as I looked after it, it would just rack up the miles.
Maybe reading about this problem has just made me a little paranoid and would like to think I'm not riding a ticking time bomb, would just like to hear a positive note, love the bike and looking forward to riding around the Picos de Europa next year
Sorry if this is in the wrong topic post maybe I should of posted in the Banter section

22K on the bike. From about 14k it has seen the track quite a few times apart from the trip to Garmish so most of it is track miles after 14k. Checked the splines earlier this year and negligible play on the clutch plate. That is I mean with the clutch lever pulled in and the clutch plate manipulated to check the rotational play.
This is how I checked it.

Cheers for the for the info guys. What started me wondering just how bad the problem was I found a video on YouTube by Chris Harris who has a lot of helpful service videos for BMW's just made me panic a bit because I really like my 1100s
Kinda guessed it maybe just an unfortunate few, enough for everyone to know about but obviously not enough for BMW to do a recall
