Final drive oil change - result
I got a quote for about £37.00 from my local dealer to do a final drive oil change on my 1200s, which I thought was pretty good considering the faff of removing the old oil from the 'sealed for life' final drive.
As it turned out, there was an outstanding recall on the final drive flange (I think that's what he said anyway, I can't find the particular recall on the DVA website), which meant that the job cost a grand total of £3.35, with the labour being picked up by the recall notice.
Happy with that.

That was nice, I think I would have had a warm glow had it been me
come to think about it we've just had a similar experience, our Mitsubishi key fob needed a new battery and it's only a dealer job so with great trepidation we inquired, £4 sir so wife went in and it was actually a little less ![dancer [smilie=dancer.gif]](./images/smilies/dancer.gif)

Indeed. The recall changes an aluminium part for a steel one, I believe.Humbug wrote:There was a recent recall, my final drive flange was replaced a couple of months ago FOC. Turns out mine was cracked!!! If you haven't had yours done, get in touch with your local dealer and ask. They have all of the recalls on their system.

Mines booked in with CWs tomorrow for the wheel flange and a fuel pump-related recall. Back in the summer I popped in and gave 'em the chassis number. Received a print-out detailing the entire history of recall and warranty work. Useful and interesting.
While it's in I've asked them to plug it in and change the odometer from kms to miles - a 'dealer only' job of course. They'll also interrogate the ECU to check that it has the most up-to-date software.
Oh, and I'll be having their R1200RS demonstrator away for a few hours while mine's being sorted
Drifted off topic there, sorry

The odometer change is one of the items that the GS911 device can do as well MikeBoxermed69 wrote:Mines booked in with CWs tomorrow for the wheel flange and a fuel pump-related recall. Indeed it is a change from Ally to Steel wheel flange - had mine doen in August took less than an hour. The fuel tank thing is to check the ring that secures the access panel in teh fule tank - again less than an hours work that recall was in 2014.
There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity
Had mine done recently but have not checked the new out visually. Is it stainless or plated/painted steel? I'd rather hope the former although both options have added about half a kilo to the weight of the bike.
Having read a thread on PP it would seem that the cracks occur in both the wheel mounting holes and the disc mounting holes, though usually one or the other and not both, although one example photo had both
Checked mine before it went in and no visible cracks in either the wheel mounting holes or the disc mounting holes.

If you check out this old thread there are some pictures of my failure.

The replacement is forged steel, whereas the old part was machined / die cast aluminium.
