Front end maintenance recommendations on R11S?

Post by bfisher »

Guys,

I'm about to replace the standard shock with a Wilbers; got me thinking if i should be consider a broader over-haul; i've only had bike for a small time & while no immediate issues, i suspect its never had a lot of love up front, & with 36k underneath it, i'm wondering what if anything else i should be looking @ over winter.

Re front fork oil & general maintenance - is it required to service/replace the oil (i haven't been able to find a hard reference that this is required)? Forum has various info which is good but i can't determine if this is a necessity or a nice to do when no signs of leaks etc.

Fork oil is just lubrication - if it ain't broken don't fix it. It's not like the oil has done much in the way of real work or been super heated - when I sold my R1100S it had 62k on the clock and the fork oil was still original no leaks squeaks or stickyness.
There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity

Good advice.
Fiat Panda.
Fiat Scudo (with speedblock, pipe carrier, reversing sensors, reversing camera, tow bar, some new rust and Fake Plumber logo)

started out with nothing, still have most of it left.
