Is this a cleanable air filter?

Post by BMblB »

The air filter in in 2001 R1100S looks like a K&N type filter, meaning that the pleats are wrapped in metal mesh, however it is BMW branded.

Is the BMW filter cleanable like a K&N or is it paper with the mesh for support?

If it's loose weave mesh - then it is re-usable after cleaning and re-oiling.

If it is yellow fabric, then it is throwaway.

Each type operates on entirely different principles.

The mesh looks exactly like what K&N uses in their filters.

From the top it's to dirty to see what color the filter material is.

from what you have described - it appears to be a reusable filter. Get a "recharge pack", to clean and re-oil it.
