101mph

Postby BoxercupDave » Sun Mar 01, 2015 11:40 pm

Well, it has happened... caught doing 101mph on the A165 Reighton By Pass.
Stupid? Yes! but it went to that speed so quick!
So I may have to sell the Boxer to pay the fine... not forgetting to pay for bus fares too. Bugger!

Bad luck. I need my licence for work so I'm really concious of the need to keep the speed down but sometimes I catch myself out

Was it a mobile speed camera van or or bloke with a gun or what? Whats the potential fine for that?

A guy I know - was caught doing 125 on the Achnasheen-Garve road at the tail end of last year............

He's now spending £3,500+ fighting the "Dangerous Driving" charge!

While he freely admits the speeding - he feels it worthwhile contesting the DG. Open road, no other traffic, clear viz.........

Sold his Fireblade the week after.

See if that works .....

Interesting that cars doing that speed often seem to be treated more leniently than 'crazy bikers'

Good luck. I am sure you are taking sound advice, and I would suggest that this is money well spent. Obviously up to you how much you disclose here :?
but previous driving record, requirement for a licence and other factors heavily influence sentence for these matters.

Of course, if it was a 30mph limit then none of the above apply  and just prepare for a right spanking !

Hello,

It will be worth posting the details of the alleged offence on www.pepipoo.co.uk and asking the consensus for advice. A likely ban might be deflected if your mitigation is sound.

I had the misfortune/stupidity to be in a similar situation (81 in a 50) and facing a potential ban but with my mitigation on medical grounds and heavily tinged with apology and regret, appearance in court, freshly pressed suit and a clean shirt & tie it was reduced to a (large) fine and 6 points on my otherwise clean licence - Not proud of it but there you are.

Excess speed of 30mph over the limit does tend to see a short ban.

My experiences were nearly 5 years ago now so things may have changed.

Best regards,

David

I got caught on A1 doing "between" 104 and 106 (105?) in 1989 resulted in 14 day ban. Couple of weeks after someone was caught doing a high speed wheelie on the A64 and as he raced bikes, was said to be in control and received a ticking off - depends on who you get on the day. As I need my licence for work my trade union provide me with legal aid of some sort (never needed to use it and didn't know it was available in 1989). Good luck - shame you weren't a famous footballer that needed transport to get to training

Last year my ride pal was caught by a police bike (disguised as an ordinary, but did have radio/aerial) booked at 82 in a 60 mph in Lincolnshire. Two lane road, clear on coming, so he overtook three 'uncle Berts', but kept the speed on just a bit too long. Reality was about 95 mph. Attended court to put his hand up to the crime and explained to the magistrate he had been taught to face his crimes. £100 and six points. He thinks it was border line ban, his appearance helped. He can now not rent vans, he is high risk.

The area I got caught is a single carriageway, and I do not know exactly where I was alleged to commit the offence, I do remember being overtaken by a Audi TT, and I just dropped a gear and shot past the Audi... that must have been where I was clocked. I do not know the speed as I was watching the road.
I had been using my head cam (Drift Ghost) but during the time mentioned in the NIP the camera was not switched on, there was a 15min period between recordings when the speed was detected.
I will be interested to find out if the TT was baiting me to go fast (it worked though). My first offence since getting my licence in 1976.

Bad luck Dave, we've all been there and got away with similar I'm sure.
One thing I notice already is that I'm almost certain ( waiting to be corrected now !! ) that you must be informed exactly where the offence took place, otherwise how on earth can you either admit or deny it ?
If the police cannot confirm your exact location my understanding is that you might well be able to argue it.

Buggar. When I got caught the marked car was following a Granafda for some time at about 85 I was following the cop - the Granada driver then realised the cop was behind and slowed - I crept past the cop at about 80 then a couple of miles down the road the cop caught up with me (my mate was following). I can only assume he let the Ford driver off cos he had the chance of 2 bikers cos he wouldn't have had time to give the car driver a ticket then chase us - cynical? what do you think?

I'm no expert but surely they'd have to show video or a picture of you going through a gatso or similar. Otherwise; as above...
