Finally Gave In! 4 Wheel Box Arriving Tomorrow....

Post by Steve1200S »

After 10 years resistance, I've given in and bought a car!

Not passed my test, but going to try a month or so of driving the mrs around with L plates then decide how many lessons I need. Think I could manage it with a few lessons just to point me in the right direction though....

Actually looking forward to my first drive in the morning! :)

I have bought the most boring car in the world though.....

You will be glad of it in the winter. Well whats the most boreing car then? They all become boreing eventually and performance is useless unlike bikes where you can zap past any traffic. I drive a Fiat Panda ,how boreing is that , but its ideal for my needs as dog and shopping carrier

Its red and looks like Postman Pat's van! ;)

I have no excitement for cars, so it's the cheapest, best service history, most MOT, most practical car i found in Sheffield for my budget. Very cheap to insure too!

I'm sure it'll suit me fine.

Boring or not, sometimes you need to be practical.

Oh god.

I had one of those as a hire car on the Algarve.

Worst car I've ever had the displeasure of driving.

Aww...

I liked the look of an imported mk1 mx5. Insurance was a few hundred £ higher though. Again, i struggle to get to excited over cars, so as long as it goes, stops, keeps me dry any carries sh1t, it fine.

MX5s are the most overhyped, underpowered and impractical four wheel heapsaround imo, at least your Agila makes some sense as a workhorse.

Ditto - except mine's a Pug 107. :D

Likewise, nowt wrong with an Agila - like the Citybug, it's small, practical, cheap to run, keeps you warm and dry and carries stuff around. Job done imho. :)

Strange how many of us drive small, practical, economical and uninspiring cars. I guess we get our kicks on two wheels. :)

Ah but some of us also drive performance cars as well.

Had a few, but now the every day car is a chipped Saab 95 Aero with 300+hp with excellent ergonomics / comfort and 55mpg equivalent as it is LPG converted too.

Small cars are good! It might change next week but so far this winter I haven't had to commute in the car.
In Ireland afaik you have to complete some sort of EDT (essential driver training) with a min of 12 modules (1 hour each) . Is that not standardised across Europe?

No, just a theory test and a practical test here. Can drive a car on a provisional license, with L plates, as long as you're accompanied by a driver who is over 21 and has had their full license for at least 3 years.

Had a go today, not as easy as i expected, but I think I'm doing ok. Not used to having so many controls and sometimes get lost in my sequence of what do when approaching junctions, but I'll get better with a few more hours.
