Thought I would document my day for fun.
I bought a cheapish and tatty S about a month ago, had some issues with the rear brake and ended up dumping the bike at a relatives after losing rear brake and a report of sparks from the rear brake by the Mrs. Initial assessment was that pads were needed, possibly disc.
Managed to get up to look at the bike this morning. Found some interesting stuff.
1, Rear Pads were indeed wrecked.
2, scoring on the rear disc seemed to be filled with some sort of metallic deposit. What could it be??
3, Removed the caliper and found that the pistons were partly melted and the discs were coated in molten aluminium. One of them being significantly shorter than the other.
I removed the excess material on the pistons, to allow them to retract fully, fitted the new pads and will get the bike home.
Caliper ordered from the 'bay. Sourcing a replacement disc.
On the positive side, the bike has a Remus system with a Cat/collector rather then a Y piece.
Pics and more to follow.
EeeK! Rear brake nightmare
