Because if you don't, no one else will. It's your turn.

This petition is to get biking orientated questions in as part of the driving test. Sign and they go in. If you don't sign, and get whacked by some 18 year old driver who didn't see you, then you have no grounds to complain. Don't come running to me with your broken legs!

Sign it.

not being difficult or anything ..(what me be contentious???)

But I really really don't see how having a bike related question in the car test would stop some dozy 18 year old from crashing into me.

What may be of more use would be to reinstate the death penalty for those who text while driving :) ... just commuted a mere 6 miles to work and saw three of them doing it.

Death penalty's a bit strong. You should have a holster fastened to your fork leg containing a 4lb hammer, then you could give their windscreen a rattle as you filtered past.

I'm inclined to agree Steve - biggest problem with a lot of drivers (and this is regardless of their age) is a complete lack of awareness of what's going on, be it road/weather conditions, other road users, and the fact that driving a vehicle is a skill which needs to be practised and concentrated on whilst doing so. For some folk the driving bit is secondary to the other activity they're doing in the car (no not that one!! ;) ) be it phoning/eating breakfast etc etc.

Personally I'd have cars built which jam all phone signals whilst that phone is inside the vehicle. Living in London - and riding into the centre on a regular basis - for over 25 years I became more and more aware of the fact that the biggest problem with erratic/dangerous driving was caused by people blabbing/texting on their phones.

A total change in overall attitude to driving is what's needed.

I've always fancied the idea of an EMP generator which could be targeted at drivers who aren't paying attention - a quick blast of which would totally disable their car's electrics and melt the phone that's stuck to their ear. :D

Death may be a bit strong Steve, but possibly violent torture with a 4lb hammer

Seriously though you have to start somewhere, so a bit of education would probably be beneficial IMHO

All joking apart, I sadly know of at least one incident involving a mobile phone using young woman killing a young guy on a GSXR600. I see plenty of them on the roads, mostly easy to spot due to the erratic driving. So as they're dishing out death to others I see no reason to have an eye for an eye policy :)

I have an ex plod jacket complete with blue and silver checks that I use when on motorways and assessing training runs etc on my K.

Several times I've been sat next to the drivers door in the adjacent lane at 75+ while they've been busy texting, they don't half jump when you toot the horn at them :)

I've posted it previously but this video is excellent at exhibiting the dangers
