| People are posting about two entirely different things - one is servo brakes (with abs), the other is plain and simple ABS. |

Cheers for your concern Harry!
I think to put things into perspective as far as ABS or SERVO i would be enclined to say both are knackered or the ABS is knackered giving the servo fualty info :
Symtoms= brake light flashing and constant warning! Drive bike said amount of miles or metres compress brake as normal and (BAMMM) wheel locks or overcompensates? Continue riding without restarting and after a while compress brakes normally and (HOOLLLYY SSHHHIIIT)
Its not stopping and im looking for a soft place to hit
Everything seems to show that the servo is working most of the time whether its working correctly or not
Either way a replacement is far from realistic at this moment in time Anybody got a spare anchor in the mean time _________________ R1100S guzzling oilhead '01'

Have you had the fault codes read? Whatever the fault, there should be a relevant fault code!

IMHO (and I hope that somebody can prove me wrong) on a modern bike (or car) with what might be an electronic issue it will probably be an absolute waste of time and money to try this and that without getting the fault codes read and identified.

is the plug for the fault code reader and the reader itself BMW bike specific or could one go to other garages that have diagnostic equipment?
a thought. _________________ If god didn't want people to eat animals, why did he make them out of meat?

No chance of using someones van for a morning to get it to Oxford, or even Northampton? Some of the hire companies will do them for about £40 ish for a day I think. I found this, they hire vans by the hour. all you need is a couple of straps from Halfords (or wherever) and a mate to give you a push...

As Sandbar says, without knowing the cause it's going to be pretty difficult to know the cure. I can't help thinking it's the only way forward, sorry to hear of your misfortune. Good luck with getting it sorted. |

Cars have gone to a standard plug system (EOBD) but that on its own is not enough. The machine has to have the BMW specific software to read the BMW codes.
AFAIK bikes are not standardised. There is (or certainly was!) a BMW bike specific code reader on the market. I cannot remember what it was called but I do remember that it was made in South Africa.
