Stellar route; having lived in Guiseley, Stokesley and Great Ayton in the past I really miss those roads _________________ 2009 HP2S

Very nice route, Andy.
I tried to follow it exactly, but things seemed to go pear-shaped between Ripon and Thirsk. I hadn't given the Zumo enough instructions and it chose a faster main road.
This is where the Zumo says I've been today (I went anti-clockwise from Helmsley)...
It was only overcast for about thirty minutes during the whole ride...
After leaving Settle, heading East towards Malham, I really thought I'd got the route wrong. Quite a contrast to the first half of the route, but good views if you stop to look...
I'll try to join you in September to do it again

Going to have to give this a miss - got to pay some debts off and I've decided to sell my Versys next year and try and find a 1200s to join the Boxercup. Might get there for a day ride. Have to see how finances are going _________________ wanna win the lottery and ride my bike |

If you buy a 1200s .................. you'll stop riding the R1100s
Decide which you want, and get a different kind of bike for your second.

Couldn't agree more. I thought about a 12S but its just too similar to the BCR and I can't get rid of that one
Bought an RSVR instead
Deciding which one to ride is the hard part

I know what you are saying but I think it will be hard for me to part with the Boxercup so I think I will still go for a 12S and still keep the BCR. Next year is a way off yet though so plans coulkd change _________________ wanna win the lottery and ride my bike |

Just working on some plans/timings for the Saturday Ride-out. The finer details may change and I'll only post the Mapsource files once I've tested the route fully. Please note that I have changed it slightly from the original post to avoid a nasty junction. If anyone fancies a day-off sometime to test it with me, feel free to drop me a PM.
First stretch is the same as 2009. Hawes to Helmsley for a cuppa. Fast, twisty, bumpy, jumps, high walls, open sweepers - roads do not come any better than this. Take it easy and enjoy - no more grass tracking this year please! 77 miles - should take 90mins or so. Please note we will have to pay for parking in Helmsley*

Then 37 miles to our lunch stop at Pateley Bridge with Fuel at Busby Stoops Roundabout - between Thirsk and Ripon. It has 8 pumps and plenty of waiting space. This is more of the above, lovely twisty and fast roads with great scenery. Pateley Bridge is a nice town with a couple of Fish and Chip shops and plenty of Cafes and Sandwich stops.
Please note we will have to pay for parking in Pateley Bridge

Then 51 miles back to Hawes. These roads are a bit different. Mostly typical great Yorkshire roads but also some narrow, twisty and challenging roads between Kilnsey and Stainforth but well worth it for the views over Arncliffe. Then back to one of the best roads going back to Hawes - just watch out for the jump around High Houses (Greg can tell you all about it!)

* Helmsley is a £1 per bike, but if you press the 'Motorbike' button you get two tickets which you can share making it 50p each. ALternatively you can take your chances and hang around the bikes and have a friendly word with the attendant if he's looking at your bike.
Not sure about the charge in PB - maybe free for bikes. We'll be using the large carpark just over the bridge on the left. _________________ &e

I know most (maybe all) of this route and reckon it will make a cracking day out for us. Some old favourites in there along with some not done on Boxertrix outings before. Get your accomodation booked now

Looks like I'll make this one after all!
(Booked a single B&B room - don't want Yogi shouting at me in the middle of the night just cos I had my snoring-horn on )
Looking forward to it...............

I see that Hawes is the most anti-bike place in the UK right now (according to MCN).
Bring on September

Can't mean us.(pillars of society that we are)
Interesting that there where no anti biker quotes from any of the businesses profiting out of our custom. |
