Here’s a few pics from our recent trip to the French Alps……….
In true “Trip Organiser” fashion – I gave Alastair a copy of all the hotel and ferry bookings…………
Day 1
Leaving the ferry at Zebrugge, we headed for the Mosel Valley and an overnight stop at Klotten. A nice setting on the banks of the river, downstream from Cochem, but extensive roadworks between Cochem and Klotten may have contributed to the lack of activity in Klotten (It certainly added 30mins to our journey time )
Stayed at the Hotel Zur Linde – not a bad wee place, and cheap enough for single rooms.
Wee motor next door
Day 2
Next day saw us heading up the Mosel for a bit of a bimble, followed by some motorway miles to Bad Tolz, near Munich.
Stayed at the Hotel Leonhardihof, which although very nicely kept………………. Had no bar! Anyway – we went off in search of somewhere for dinner, followed by a few beers in a local hostelry to watch Germany getting punted out of the World Cup……….
Day 3
Up bright and early, for the trip to Merano in Italy-shire via Grossglockner and the Dolomites ……………
Grossglockner was a wee bit busy, but worthwhile all the same. The Dolomites were spectacular………….
Stayed at the Hotel Steiner in Merano, which was reasonable.
Day 4
Up early again for the run to the Stelvio Pass. We headed up to the summit, and then down the north side, did a U-turn – and came back up the pass. I had a couple of wobbly moments on the uphill hairpins, but managed to keep the bike up.
Headed off from Stelvio to Bossico which turned out to be the best hotel so far (Hotel Miralago) Nice terrace, good food, plenty of beer etc.
Day 5
From Bossico, it was a bit of a slog to our booked chalet in Beauvezer, southwest from Barcelonnette – but we arrived in plenty of time…………. (Beer-o’clock)
The chalet was a bit of a disappointment as the grass was overgrown and it looked as though the owner had left it – thinking he and his family would be the first to return.
Sophisticated eating………
Still – we made the most of it, and had a bbq most nights after returning from daytrips to:
Monte Carlo
Gorge de Verdon
Col De La Bonnette
Guy and girl on K1300 and MV
Not sure how you can get to top of La Bonnette with chicken strips, mind
Show of thumbs…………
The scrapings are probably still stuck to the tarmac on La Bonnette
Tour de France (Chembrey-Gap stage)
All in all – 3,200 miles, all in great weather on great roads…………..

Fantastic pics Al.
Have been to some of those places myself, not the Stelvio though, one for the future. There's a biker hotel at Klotten near the level crossing called Zur Poste and we had a great time there a few years back and I remember having a drink in or two in Zur Linde.
Have you got any Garmin routes you can share? _________________ Nick

I tried to book the Zur Poste, but it was fully booked. The Zur Linde was €39.00 for a single room with breakfast - bargain!
I'll have a look at posting the routes taken.............
