South West Shore to Moor Tour, Route Sept 2012

Postby popsky » Wed Jul 04, 2012 3:51 pm

Me and Karen braved the elements last Saturday to reccy the proposed route, it works out at 205 miles, and to include a coffee stop at Torrington common [burger van and toilets here]. On to Launceston to fill up the bikes approx 85 miles from Minehead. Stop in Tavistock for lunch [perhaps sample a fresh cooked pasty!]. Head over Dartmoor no stopping at the prison!!!!!!
take a left at Mortenhampstead then upto South Molten [2nd visit]. Dive down the valley to the Black cat and Bampton [loo stop?] then follow the valley road home for T. [and BEER if you've been good]

Let me know what you think :D

Tavestock is a great little town. It seems to have a real infrastructure.

Was amazed to see people on street corners at lunchtime - eating "Tiddlyoggies"........ :D

If you're into fine wines - I can recommend Charles Steevenson Wines (Wholesaler - not "HelloSailer" :? )

If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......

Funny you should mention tiddlyoggie, that's exactly what I had for lunch when we stopped in Tavistock, didn't stand on the street corner though, ate mine off a plate with knife & fork and a small salad oh and a pot of T

Good link to the wine merchant Al, shall have a good look at that, we love a nice bottle :D

Hello All Trixters,

Just an update to all coming on the Saturday rideout including any who may be turning up for the ride only,

We shall be meeting at the Gascony Hotel car park [Karen and myself shall look to get there for around 9.30am] and the ride shall set off at 10am sharp, we shall be useing the drop off system, if you are not familier with this then please find Me or Peter [popsky or Herrman] and we can explain it. its not difficult, heck I managed it for the 1st time in Wales last year

lets hope everbody has everthing crossed for a fine days ride, looking forward to leading the group on a great West Country jaunt :D :D :D

P.S. full fuel tanks and empty bladders would be a good thing also

Cheers for that offer Peter, I would really like you to be able to do your own thing and have someone else do TEC duties, [think its sorted] but if you could bring the vest that would be great.

I won't be doing the run

But you could do what we have done for years "second man"

Second man stops just past junction to show rest what way to go then he picks up the rear this way everyone in the group gets involved no one gets lost or left behind it's far easier done than said

That sounds like a good idea Dai - can you expand on how that works? .................. [smilie=mutley laugh.gif]

It used to be easier when you could turn your lights off the last man would have his lights on then turn them off when he passed the second man then when the second man was the last man he would turn his lights on that way the first man would be able to tell if all the group were keeping up or not

Hi,
Second Man sounds very much like the Drop Off system we use. We as a group have used it for years and it usually works well. (providing everyone does as they are supposed to) No need for anyone to ride out of there own comfort zone or try and keep anyone in sight. Cannot think of any other way to keep upto 45 Bikes (Welsh weekends) all on route.

Peter.

As long as a system works keep with it
There's nothing worse than getting split up on a run
