To all the doubters, pisstakers, canal boat decorators etc........The bar ends are almost certainly gun metal. Polished them on Sunday and still not a bit of tarnish on them AND the MOT guy today had his mucky paws all over them, they just wiped clean again :P so there

Hmmm... mine are showing signs of tarnish where the lacquer has rubbed off. I can't see there would be a difference between a '98 and '99 model's barends. Give 'em a bit of time, Dave.

Gats, if they were brass they would have started to tarnish by now. It's been 3 days and they are still as bright as they were on Sunday when I polished them . They're the wrong colour and hardness for brass anyhow - they have more of a coppery patina which is concurrent with the appearance of gunmetal. I'll try to find out for sure what they are tho' as there are a lot of brass based alloys out there these days

Not all that's yellow is gold! It's brass, or maybe bronze.

Gun metal... that's grey. Look at the Humbrol stand next time you're near a hobby shop. Military modellers can't be wrong. ;)

Sorry Gus. Don't mean to twist your mind regarding brass alloys. Chipped the rust off the canal boat's anchor this evening and it's grey underneath. Sorta like gunmetal grey actually... :o

Gary, you are an imposter. All good decorators know canal boats don't have anchors - where they gonna drift off to? Out to sea ?

http://www.oem-uk.com/shop/acatalog/R1100S.html

Now, can we get back to something more interesting, such as tyre choices?

Paul
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Oh, bugger! Busted.

Now for the moderator stomping on this piece of literary history-in-the-making. I feel our inalienable right to free speech is being repressed in an unprecedented way. Censorship for the sake of political correctness and supression of free thought I say! Furthermore, if I wanted silvery barends I'd dip them in silver frost and clear coat them and.... what?.... wrong board, eh? Not Pelican? Hmmmm....

I'll get me Vanson.
