steering damper on its way out...

Postby Ade B » Mon Mar 22, 2004 4:21 pm

MOT passed no major probs but...

Apparently the steering damper has an uneven action when wiggling the steering at high speed (low speed is smooth) - I've never noticed it during normal and track riding, even with the odd head shake..

Any thoughts on causes and remedies...

Do ohlins do a replacement?

Cheers,

Ask Plankton Pete about Ohlins replacement.
Harris now claim they don't, but Pete managed to get one from them :?:

I found the best remedy for mine was to remove it and chuck it in the parts bin

seriously I find the steering on the bike much better without one

I'd be tempted to take the thing off completely - the rear Ohlins shock on my S was cranked up till the bike was very arse-high, much more so than an S Sport and it never shook its head. The odd very slight shimmy but nowt to get scary over.

When the damper was knackered on my old R1100R, at about 25k, I never got it repaired as I'm sure the bike handled better without it.

points taken..

I must admit I can't see the requirement for one other than to add extra difference to the S Sport compared with the stock S. The only head shake I've had was on the track and that was more of a gentle wobble, part of the fun..

Will leave it alone until I actually notice something then bin it - will make getting round london easier

It probably makes more sense with dymags, proper brakes and the carbon wishbone :) eh Chris :?: :?:
