Bike turning over slowly

Postby radiohead9999 » Sat Nov 28, 2020 7:05 pm

Hi,

Looking for so help! I tried turning over my R1200S after a few weeks of non-activity and the engine turned over really slowly, then stopped, after trying to charge it, with no success, I changed the battery, but still not luck. It turns over slightly better, but not enough to fire up the engine. Any ideas what to try next? The lat time I fired it up, it was fine and started with no issues.

Thanks

Steve

Could this be a starter motor issue ?

After our big floods last year, a lot of vehicles that were in water up to the door seals , had alternator and starter motor issues, basically they seized up due to the crap that had got in, the damp and dried out with all this inside.

No idea if your starter motor has been exposed to water .

Thanks, fortunately the bike has stayed dry, so that’s not an issue. I’m thinking either poor earthing or degraded starter motor, maybe.

I got the bike to run by jumping it from my car, it took a few turns to fire it up, but it runs fine now, i guess Ieft it too long between runs, lesson learned!

You may find that it only starts with the battery at max capacity, which would be a sign of a weak starter motor. (would explain the car-jump)

Half way through a run - stop and give it a few starts with (say) 1min between starts. See how that performs.
If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........

See if that works .....

But make sure you are back home when you test it, then go back out.
