Hi All,

I have an otherwise immaculate R1200s but there is some minor corrosion on the black front engine cover.

As the bike is in mint condition I would like to get this sorted, does anyone know where I could source a brand new one? Alternatively would anyone recommend having it powder coated, just not sure what the finish would look like.

Cheers in advance for any responses

There appears to be 3 part numbers - don't know why but they are:-
11 14 7 675 925
11 14 7 713 871
11 14 7 719 509

And you will need a new seal part number:-
11 11 8 528 387 dimensions are 35 x 50 x 7 and costs about £12

The front covers new are around £240 ish and If you give the dealer your reg they'll be able to get the correct one (cannot see what the difference can be tho)

Motorworks have them used for £70. Factor in powder coating and you will probably get a more durable finish. You will also need the sealant for the front cover. The BMW sealant I believe is quite expensive but apparently the best to use. when you apply it, use it quite sparingly and fit the cover hand tight and leave it an hour before the final tighten (I was told this by a BMW tech and it isn't my experience but I will find out later in the year when I do mine!!)

If you get one powder coated, make sure you mask the mating face and also the landing surfaces for the allen bolts. use little circles of masking tape for them. If you don't - the pressure of the torqued bolts will crack the coating.

What about just remove the one that is on, and take it to a wheel refinisher. They'll probably do it for £35. (don't forget to mask it)

Thanks Guys,

Two good options to consider.

I was told by an independent service centre that you can’t get the black front engine covers anymore only the silver coloured ones, however I’m not sure if that was true or perhaps they couldn’t source one in time.

I will make some enquiries.

I’m sure there’s been plenty of posts with piccies regarding painting the front cover, the original paint is water based iirc which is the part of the problem with the corrosion and the ally cover.

When this is all over try Williams in Manchester. I was told that the single seat cowl for the 12s was no longer available in black but they got me one. the 3 part numbers I found are not showing discontinued on the BMW site I use for identifying parts so worth giving a dealer a ring

Ive got a spare one in the garage, bought for my RT with the intention of having it powdercoated, but I'm so pleased with my diy refurb on the one on the bike, it's no longer needed! It's been bead-blasted and had etch primer applied as shown. Some areas of (now exterminated!) corrosion, the bulk of which would be under the plastic belt cover anyway. Part no. is 1114 767 0361, which for some reason doesn't show up on realoem.

£55 delivered if you can make use of it. Photos on request.
