R1100S mirror glass

Postby hooperman » Sun Sep 08, 2013 5:27 pm

I have broken the right side mirror glass. I can't see how/whether the glass can be replaced, assuming BMW sell it at an non-extortionate price. S/hand ones are circa £60!

You can apparently replace it by putting the mirror in an oven and popping in a precut piece of mirror in and as it cools it shrinks and traps the glass in place. Not done it myself but I've heard others say they have.

BMW don't sell the glass you'll have to get it cut yourself, or buy a used one on ebay

Steve is right.

Look on Ebay/T'internet. There are step by step instructions. You would not believe what it recommends but it works !

Mirror changing guidance

Postby hooperman » Sun Sep 15, 2013 4:57 pm

Andy,

I put the mirror in the oven eventually as 220. It softened it a bit but not really enough to get another piece of mirror in. Any idea where those instructions are?

Surprised at that, the lenses in mine go a bit "loose" on a hot summers day?

Must do this - I've got a crack in my nearside glass.
